What is abuse?
Power
Abusers
"If people can't control their own emotions then they have to start trying to control other people's behaviour." - Robin Skynner; John Cleese
"When a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others see you..." - Jill Blakeway
"How to not abuse someone. 'Don't hit them' would be mentioned but wouldn't be the focus. The focus would be on 'don't try to control them.'" - Holly, The Pervocracy
"You don't know how to love people. You only know how to own them. And because people will never act just like you want them to, Mother, you'll always feel betrayed....you'll always feel cheated. But you're the cheat, Mother. You're the one who uses our love for you to try and control us." - Orson Scott Card, Xenocide
"I think too much emphasis is put on love in general. I’ve heard of many atrocities done within families in the name of love but never in the name of respect." - Elvira G. Aletta
Characteristics of abuse and abusive relationships
"The most insidious aspect of living with an angry or abusive partner is not the obvious—nervous reactions to shouting, name-calling, criticism or other demeaning behavior. It's the adaptations you make to try to prevent those episodes." - Steven Stosny
Couples therapy makes things worse for victims of abuse
If violence has been, and especially if it currently still is an issue in your relationship, then Couple Counselling is not recommended. Nor is Mediation if you are going through separation or divorce. Basically the abuse itself has to be dealt with BEFORE any form of joint counselling or mediation can be effective, and in the meantime can, at best, deflect from the actual problem and fudge responsibility issues. 2020.05.04 18:05 Mel0n_Collie [OC] What if every world cup team had the same population? - Group F

Mayday! Mayday! A new group is upon us! Welcome back to this alternative world cup as we uncover the sixth group of eight in this fascinating made-up tournament, well, fascinating to me atleast.
My writing was briefly interrupted this morning as amidst all this major historical event malarkey, the UK sneakily changed the May bank holiday to friday leading me to run down the road in my dressing gown for a bin man I didn’t expect. Artists interpretation
I’ve since wiped the stale beer and bin juice off of myself to bring you what was collectively the most laborious group to research, but before I excite you too much, here are the groups so far
Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E
With this installment falling on May the fourth, you may want to read them in the correct order of D, E, F, A, B, C. Today’s edition begins however, with the revenge of the Sikh’s.
Punjab
3 Indian States (Punjab, Haryana, Rajastan), 1 Pakistani Province (Punjab)
Population (millions): 231.65
From the region that brought you Mundian To Bach Ke via Coventry, we bring you one of the better teams of a very bad Indian bunch.
Punjab is a Persian word meaning land of five rivers, unfortunately as far as the Football is concerned, the region tends to meander more than it flows.
The Pakistani half of the region hogs nine of 16 Pakistan Premier League clubs, denoting sporting superiority to the province's peers, of whom produced zero players for Greater Khorosan’s shortlist.
The ‘Pak Shaheen’ send an octet of failed cricketers to a side where the non-punjabi states of Haryana and Rajastan are never-presents

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is India’s number one between the sticks, and statistically exceeds the credentials of his teammates here. In September of last year Singh made an incredible 20 saves against Qatar in a completely unexpected 0-0 draw, this high-profile MOTM performance combined with Winning the ISL in 2019 earned him the Golden Glove award and the Arjuna Award for special achievement in Indian sport.
The best offering from west of the border is young fullback Ali Uzair, unfortunately that’s more of an emphasis on the lack of quality from Pakistan.
This uninspiring side has more ammature level ‘Singh’ing than a Saturday night reality show, this side has little to no X factor, it transpires that Punjab does NOT have talent.
West Indonisia & Singapore
25 most westernly Indonesian states, Singapore
Population (millions): 247.71
Aside from the aforementioned Pakistan, Indonesia is the closest sovereign nation to the target population, slightly over hitting the mark, Australia and co. nicked the West of this astronomical archipelago.
Much like many of the south-eastern countries, football is arguably Indonesia’s most popular sport along with Badminton. Playing under the historical pseudonym of the Dutch East-Indies, the Garuda were the first Asian team to participate in the World Cup in 1938, with a 6-0 defeat to Hungary their only appearance to date in the tournament.
With a substantial talent pool and a love for the game, it is frustrating that they have yet to produce a player that has made any sort of impact on the game. The man attempting to remedy that is obviously… Dennis Wise? Yes, bizarrely in what in one of the best Footballing series to come out of Youtube ‘The Search for Indonesia’s first wonderkid’ follows ‘Garuda Select’, a squad of 16/17 year old Indonesians scouted and managed by former England teammates Dennis Wise and Des Walker who give them the opportunity of spending a year in the English development system. Devised by the Indonesian FA, It’s a fascinating and unique look at the measures taken to develop the game.
A game between Garuda Select and Walsall under-17 was viewed live in Indonesia by 4.5 million people, personifying an incomparable desperation for a football team to be proud of. The now 18 year old striker Bagus Kahfi looks to be the valedictorian of the class of 2020, commanding rumours of a groundbreaking English club contract.
For now the only thing the current Indonesia squad has in common with England is that they seem adverse to being in Europe. The metropolitan super-city of Singapore joins on to the side, providing a spine of players to the squad.

While Bagus doesn’t quite have the mileage to make the squad yet, sophomore Egy Maulana could be just as prosperous. The teenager has begun making appearances in the Polish Ekstraklasa scoring 13 goals in 16 games for the reserve side.
Native league champions Bali United are responsible for almost a quarter of the squad; formed in 2015, this favourable away day is already banging on the door of Champions league qualification.
Belgian bad boy Radja Nainggolan is half-Indonesian and idolised for being so. Despite already commanding 30 caps for ‘Les Diables Rouges’ before being outcast by Roberto Martinez, if there was some way for the midfielder to change allegiances, the manager would probably let him light up a cigarette in the centre-circle if he wanted to.
Far East and WCUS
Japan, South Korea,10 US States (Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, Alaska)
Population (millions): 241.08
By far the most strained geographical combination, this franken-side is of intermediate quality but got an absolute touch in the draw, putting them as favourites.
From K-pop to California, this region could have simply been named ‘pop-culture land’, although the star quality is monopolised by a smiley Spurs striker who is projecting a career that may well already crown him Asia’s greatest ever export.
Japan and South Korea are Asia’s most tenacious territories when it comes to World Cup qualification. A debut appearance in 1998 for the Samurai Blue sparked a sensational start to the 21st century, qualifying for the last six iterations of the tournament reaching the knockout stages on three occasions, winning the Asian Cup thrice during this spell. The talismanic talents of Cha Bum and Park Ji Sung dominate the saga of South Korea’s qualification streak that spans back to 1986, although bizarrely continental bragging rights have evaded them for 60 years.
The west coast of the United States buffers the region's populous power, hoping tactics won’t get lost in translation, four yanks make their way East.

The affiliate clubs of this team read like an interrailing checklist; the side sprinkles across a predominantly European list of heavy-to-welter-weight clubs.
Stefan Frei likely tends the goal despite hailing from Germany, while in front of him are the familiar faces of Yoshida and Sakai who both have an eye for goal.
Takashi Inui was the star of a recent World Cup campaign that cruelly resulted in Japan almost reaching the quarter finals, losing to Belgium after being 2-0 up in one of the year's most enthralling matches. The forward thinking midfielder may play parallel to Liverpool’s newest acquisition Minamino who is finding his feet at the European champions.
The region has some explosive young talent in the way of Valencia’s Kangin Lee, the 19 year old just made the cut as Barcelona’s Takeufa Kubo is one year his junior but has a higher ceiling for future stardom, but for now his talent’s are still as raw as a California sushi roll.
I can’t finish this section without nodding to the almost boringly impressive ability of Heung-Min Song. A Champions League finalist and the first Asian player to score 50 Premier League goals, ‘Sonaldo’ is the Salah of South Korea and the unofficial eighth member of BTS, his world-class abilities will undoubtedly see him have a lot of fun in this group.
East Africa
Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, CAR, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Niger

The poorest African region in more ways than one, it is completely forgivable that this squad doesn’t compete with their continental counterparts.
The inclusion of Tunisia is greatly beneficial as the Magreb moguls have five qualifications to their name, combine that with the rest of the region and East Africa has… five qualifications to their name.
Ethiopia features less in this squad than it’s 109 million population demands. The national team won a home Cup of Nations in 1962 but have qualified just once in the last 37 years.
Troubled nation Somalia does not feature in this squad, probably because the players keep insisting they are the captain.

The squads greatest chance of a high finish rests in the hands of Midfield pair Wahbi Khazri and Geoffrey Kondogbia; The Tunisian showed flashes of brilliance for an infamously poor Sunderland side, while the holding midfielder from CAR always has plenty in the tank.
Chad’s only representative Casimir Ninga can sneak through defenses unnoticed on his day but is an archetypal pacey dribbler with end product to be desired.
Henok Goitom should lead the line, the 35 year old striker was born in Sweden but is the offspring of two Eritrean asylum seekers. In 2008-09 Goitom reached double figures in La Liga but wasn’t to make his international debut until six years later, he now captains the red sea boys but the multigenerational talent’s best years are behind him, and having never qualified for AFCON, it might be an opportunity spurned.
The back line has the potential to be all Tunisian, a side that conceded eight goals in three games in russia, albeit presumably less than Djibouti would have.
Thanks again for reading, tomorrow we’ll have a region that would make Trump spit out his disinfectant , and the land of 9 million bicycles.

2020.04.25 16:15 invalidusermyass Mega-List: Israel's Crimes and Controversies

Updated on 15 Oct 2020, Arranged in Chronological Order
All articles cited are from reliable and trustworthy sources (some may be NSFL):
Use this website to read any paywalled site you might encounter in this list.
Major Incidents:
ONE. Assasination of Jacob Israël de Haan (1924), a Dutch-Jewish diplomat, for attempting to make a peace deal with the Emir of Mecca - his plan was a Palestinian state in a Jordanian federation, the Zionists would drop the Balfour declaration and any claim to a state in exchange for unrestricted immigration. He was assassinated when leaving a synagogue by Avraham Tehomi (who admitted to it much later), on the orders of Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, who later became the 2nd President of Israel:
Wiki, Haaretz, 972mag
TWO. King David Hotel Bombing (1946) where right-wing Zionist terrorists attacked a British HQ located within the hotel killing 91 and injuring 46. The leader of the perpetrators, Manachem Begin became the Prime Minister of Israel in 1977:
Wiki, Haaretz
THREE. Deir Yassin Massacre (1948) where 110 villagers were slaughtered, some members of the perpetrators were at a later time, absorbed into the IDF, one even became PM of Israel:
Wiki, Haaretz, Britannica
FOUR. Document from IDF archives (1948) which after translation states:
"In the villages lying between Nahraiya and Tarshiha there are no foreign troops for the time being. The villages are armed and ready for action1. Your orders are to occupy, kill the men2, destroy and burn down the villages of Kabri, Umm al-Faraj and al-Nahr."
[1] Ilan Pappe notes that the villagers had no proper arms, only for hunting purposes and people who served in the police; without Arab troops that were absent they stood no chance [2] In April 1948, the Intelligence of the Hagana defined men as anyone above the age of 10

FIVE. Palestinian Exodus "Nakba" (1948) was an expulsion of 700,000 Palestinian Arabs from their Homeland during the war and establishment of Israel in May 1948, these includes testimonies of massacres, rape and looting. During and immediately following the state’s creation, Israel expropriated approximately 4,244,776 acres of Palestinian land.
Haaretz, Haaretz, Atlantic, Vox, TheWallsOfJerusalem
SIX. Assassination of Folke Bernadotte, (1948) UN Mediator for Palestinian Refugees by Israel's Zionist Paramilitary Group, Lehi. The killing was approved by the three-man 'center' of Lehi, one of which, after the assassination, became 7th Prime Minister of Israel (Yitzhak Shamir). No one was convicted for the assassination:
Wiki, Independent, Haaretz, WRMEA
SEVEN. Qibya Massacre (1953) where IDF troops under Ariel Sharon killed at least 69 Palestinian villagers, two-thirds of them were women and children. 45 homes, a school and a mosque were destroyed. The attack began with a mortar barrage on the village. IDF deployed explosive charges to breach the barbed fence and mined roads to prevent Jordanian forces from intervening. At the same time at least 25 mortar shells were fired into Budrus (neighbouring village) before IDF troops simultaneously entered the village from 3 sides. Ariel Sharon later wrote: "The orders were clear, Qibya was to be an example for everyone." Original documents showed that Sharon personally ordered his troops to achieve "maximal killing and damage to property", and post-operational reports speak of breaking into houses and clearing them with grenades and shooting.
Wiki, 972mag, Cambridge, Haaretz, AJ, CounterPunch
EIGHT. Lavon Affair (1954) a failed false flag operation where Egyptian Jews were recruited by Israeli Military Intelligence to plant bombs inside Egyptian, American, and British-owned civilian targets, their foiled plan was to blame the attacks on the Muslim Brotherhood:
Haaretz, TimesofIsrael, Wiki
NINE. Kafr Qasim Massacre (1956) where Israeli Border Police killed 49 Arabs (19 men, 6 women, 23 children, 1 unborn child) returning home from work during a curfew they were unaware of. Those involved in the massacre were found guilty but were pardoned and released from prison in a single year. The highest ranking official prosecuted for the massacre confessed before his death, that the massacre were planned to ethnically cleanse Israeli Arabs from the region, and that his trial was staged to protect Israeli political and military elites, including Prime Minister Ben Gurion, from taking responsibility for the massacre:
Wiki, Haaretz, 972mag, Medium
TEN. Apollo Affair (1965) an incident where 200-600 pounds of highly enriched uranium disappeared from a Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Highly suspected to have gone to Israel's Nuclear Program particularly given the visit of Rafi Eitan who was under the guise of a chemist but later revealed as an Israeli spy and who was later involved in the Jonathan Pollard incident:

For 3 days, they engaged in rape, murder and mutilation w the knowledge of IDF troops surrounding the refugee camps. Israeli forces fired flares into the night sky to illuminate the darkness for the Phalangists, allowed reinforcements to enter the area on the 2nd day of the massacre, and provided bulldozers that were used to dispose of the bodies of many victims. Estimated death count: 2000 - 3500. Ariel Sharon was held responsible for the Massacre, but he was still voted as PM of Israel in 2001:

New Zealand imposed diplomatic sanctions on Israel over an incident where 2 Australia-based Israelis, who were allegedly working for Mossad, attempted to fraudulently obtain NZ Passports by claiming the identity of a disabled man. 2 others, Ze'ev Barkan and David Reznick, are believed to have been the 3rd and 4th men involved in the scandal but they managed to leave NZ before being apprehended. NZ PM viewed the incident as "not only utterly unacceptable but also a breach of NZ's sovereignty and international law". The following year, Israeli foreign minister apologized for the incident.
2019.08.30 13:43 Mr_Carstein Are repeated Race Updates something to consider?

With the upcoming Hunter and the Beast DLC, I've been wondering if this means we're going to get DLC packs for WH1 factions who've already been revisited. And if so, is it far fetched to assume they'll get another update? I think this would be a great way to keep factions up-to-date with the game's current standards.
Here are some of the things I've thought of and I'd love to know what you folks think or what you'd like to see in the future.
Dwarfen Cross-Game DLC
Legendary Lord:
- Grimm Burloksson, the youngest Master Engineer in Dwarfen History
Units:
- Ironbreakers/Irondrakes with Drakefire Pistols
- Thunderbarge
- Dwarf Deathroller
The theme of this DLC is that the dwarfs, or at least those who follow Grimm Burloksson, embrace the idea of using and developing new war-machines. The Dwarf Deathroller is a bloodbowl miniature, but honestly, who cares? It's hilarious-looking, badass and can give the dwarfs a new playstyle if they were to gain access to a heavy mass chariot-style unit. And at the end of the day, it's still close to Warhammer Fantasy. It's not like we're pulling a Dreadknaught from 40k into the game.
I feel like creating the Thunderbarge and Deathroller should also have a negative effect on your grudge meter. I imagine the elders and longbeards wouldn't be happy at all if you were to try and create these ridiculous machines in a time of crisis. So it makes you wanna consider recruiting these units carefully.

Second Old World Update: Dwarfs - Grombrindal Horde-Faction/Improved Underway mechanic
A Horde-style Grombrindal, akin to Nakai the Wanderer. Now, this may be too much to ask for, but I'm just gonna suggest it anyway to see what others think. Who knows, maybe CA will surprise us again. Grombrindal is as much a force of nature as Nakai. His mechanic can be to give lost Karaks back to their respective Dwarfen Faction. For example, if the Vampire Counts capture Karak Kadrin, you can re-capture it and give the settlement back to Ungrim. By lost Karaks I also mean the ones that are occupied by the Greenskins at the start of the campaign. Black Crag and Ekrund for example could be given to the main Dwarf faction. Karak Eight Peaks can be given to Belegar. He could have his own faction and start in Karak Zorn.
Regions that didn't originally belong to a Dwarfen faction can be captured as outposts which can give you campaign buffs, replenishment and a strong garrison via buildings.
If this is too much for an update, then perhaps we could see an improved underway mechanic so that it makes more sense. Dwarfs shouldn't be able to use the underway stance in regions where an underway hasn't been constructed. Perhaps the Dwarfs can get a new campaign mechanic where they can repair the underway and expand the areas in which they can travel freely via underway stance. This can also increase their economy and campaign movement range via underway stance.
Vampire Counts Cross-Game DLC
Legendary Lord:
- Neferata, Queen of the Vampires
Units:
- Spirit Hosts (lore)
- Coven Throne (lore)
- Abyssal Terror
I've excluded the Morghast Archai and Harbingers because I'm guessing if we're gonna get into End Times units, it's safer to assume we'll get them in game 3 along with Nagash.
The Abyssal Terror could be a neat, cheap, mid-game air unit option that brings armour piercing and poison onto the table. They can also serve as meaty mounts for Necromancers. I'd say Vampires can also use them as mounts but apart from costing less upkeep than a Zombie Dragon and being beefier but slower than a Nightmare, I kinda feel they'd be redundant for them. But that's just me.
Coven Thrones can also act as mounts for Vampire Heroes and Lahmian Vampires, along with Neferata herself.

Originally I thought Neferata could introduce proxy wars as a mechanic in TWWH, but then I decided against it.
If we were to get proxy wars in WH, then I think it should be given to a number of factions for which it makes sense. Characters like Malekith, Karl Franz and Mannfred who are known to have instigated proxy wars should be able to have this mechanic. It would make them different from other options within their race and be very thematic for them. So I really hope this is more something that we'll receive in Warhammer 3 along with an improved campaign and diplomacy system.
So what else do you folks think could Neferata bring to the table?

Second Old World Update: Vampire Counts - Loyalty System
I think at this point Vampire Counts really should have the loyalty system. Scheming and betrayal is part of the daily (un)life of a Vampire/Necromancer. It's just perfect for them and just as WH2 has 2 base game factions that use the loyalty mechanic, I think Vampires (and even Greenskins) from the old world would also benefit from this mechanic. Bloodline Lords can be excluded from the loyalty system to make them stand out even further and make them more reliable.
And loyalty needs a change in general. It needs to be the same way the Vampire Coast loyalty system works.

As for Bretonnia...
I'm honestly not sure if they're missing any units. They can definitely get some new Legendary lords like Bohemond the Beastslayer.
I only know of The Faceless and Herrimault as potential missing units, but honestly the only Legendary Lord I can see them being viable for is Mallobaude.
ItalianSpartacus made a fantastic video about Mallobaude where he speculates what Mallobaude's faction could be like. I REALLY hope CA consider his suggestions if they ever want to add Mallobaude into the game. It would just suck if he'd become another Vampire clone. Playing as a sort of usurper of Bretonnia would be so different and allow us to unify Bretonnia under the banner of a much darker King.
How could he be implemented in the Vortex Campaign? Just give him a reason to go on an errantry war to Araby to further his dark goals.

And that's it. Would you all like to see Dwarfs, Vampires and Bretonnia get a second update? Which Lords or Units would you like to see in a Lord Pack?

[1] Ilan Pappe notes that the villagers had no proper arms, only for hunting purposes and people who served in the police; without Arab troops that were absent they stood no chance [2] In April 1948, the Intelligence of the Hagana defined men as anyone above the age of 10

Even if the FBI hoards the information - despite a White House policy that tilts toward disclosure to manufacturers - if it is not revealed to Apple, there are other ways the method could come to light or be rendered ineffective over time, according to Zdziarski and senior Apple engineers who spoke on condition of anonymity."ar_AR" : locale); if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.async = true; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/"+locale+"/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.4"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk', 'en_US'));

Questions Answers
Do you think the Arab world and Western nations will ever get along? have peace? 'maybe someday, when we run out of oil'
Excuse me for an indelicate question, but was her marriage consummated at the age of 13? Did she feel emotionally prepared when it was consummated? I hate you for making me ask her this. 'Yes, it was consummated that night. I didn't know what was waiting for me'
Heh, thanks for putting yourself on the line for my curiosity. Does she think that getting married that early is good for girls in general? 'No one saw it as an issue, it was normal. It never felt wrong to anyone.' 'Now, you can't get married until you turn 18, I wouldn't encourage her to get married at that age. 13 year olds these days are still kids, back in my days, 13-17 y.o were able to handle all chores and care for a family'
What was it like getting married at the age of 13? Did you have the opportunity to meet your husband before the wedding day? Are the two of you still married? 'He was our neighbor, he was 40 years old at the time. besides the "Salam"(hello) from time to time, The first time I've ever spoken to him was my wedding night" "Marriage at the age of 13 was hard, I had to do a lot of chores, there was no technology to make it easier" they were married until he died in the early 80s.
Edit : English.
Did you feel like your marriage become a strong partnership? Or did it feel a little forced or lonely at times? Did you grow to love each other deeply or did you grow to love each other in a different way than some people view "true love"? Did the two of you have many children together? " it became a strong partnership with time, he was a good man" -" It was never lonely, I lived near my family the first years of my marriage" -"It wasn't like the love that your generation knows, it was more like respect and compassion, nothing like the movies these days" They had 6 children.
Are you a religious person? What do you think about Islam and the future of Islam in the world? 'I am a practicing Muslim, Islam is a beautiful religion.'
I've heard several Muslim people use the word "beautiful" to describe their religion. It intrigues me. I'd like to know what things you're thinking of when you say Islam is beautiful. 'It's beautiful in the way you treat others, and the way others treat you. And how it unites people of all backgrounds. It's a fair religion'
Oh and happy Eid :) Aid mubarak to you too :)

Does she see her life as unsuccessful? Why? "I had kids, and raised them well. They raised their children well. I'm pretty happy"
Does she think that abolition of all religions would solve the conflicts in the middle east? Or is it simply in our nature to fight over land? "Religion is holding the middle east together. greed is in our nature"
Why does she think Reddit is a government spying machine? She's very much into politics, and keeps up to date with news. She is one of those people who believe in conspiracy theories. So maybe that has something to do with it? She also grew up in a time where speaking your mind wasn't allowed, so when i told her that strangers on the internet might want to ask her question, that was the first thing she said.
Would you be comfortable with your granddaughter marrying a non-arab? I actually married a non arab, and she doesn't have a problem with that.
That's awesome...been dating a Sindhi girl for 4 years. Parent's can't accept us. Not sure if they will ever understand, and its tough for her to choose between a relationship and her family. Great AMA, and thanks for the quick response! Thank you, and good luck with your relationship. ps: you might have to work a bit harder to win her parents over, but please don't make her feel like she has to choose between you and her parents, it's only going to make things go south.
How does your grandma feel about Arab Nationalism? Does she strongly identify as an Arab, and does she feel close ties to people in, say, Egypt, Syria or Kuwait? " I'm proud of my nationality. of course, I'm going to feel close to them, we are brothers and sisters"
I went to FEZ while i was traveling once. Has she ever been? They had a phrase that meant "the donkey has the right of way" does she know it? Bc i forgot it. Also, everyone there spoke so many different languages. How many does she speak? 'Yes, I've been there.' She recognized the phrase, they would unleash donkeys in the morning, and wait for them to comeback on their own. - she only speaks one language.
What changes would you like to see the Moroccan government make? " I'd like to see them help poor people more "
Where were you born and where do you live now? 'I was born in Morocco. I still live in the same country'
Which part of Morocco? I was there two years ago, really liked it. It was a completely different world for me. Also, there is a total chaos on the roads, like there are no rules whatsoever. Casablanca, There is definitely a lot of chaos on the roads. It's due to people ignoring the law for some part, really irresponsible taxi drivers, and poor condition of some roads.
Within her lifetime the Jewish population of Morocco went from a quarter million to just a few thousand (cite). Did she live in an area where she had Jewish neighbors and if so how were community relations back then? "I knew a lot of Jewish neighbors, they always provided jobs for people. They were very nice and generous, I know people who cried when their jewish neighbor left morocco"

Do you have any thoughts on the conflict in Israel/Palestine? 'It makes me sad to see that people die everyday, they don't get much coverage these days'
Is it better or worse to be an Arab women now or 50 years ago? 'definitely 50 years ago, there was a lot of respect, women respected themselves, so everyone else respected them'
What do you think has been the main cause for the change? "People didn't go to school back then, people now are educated they know more"
So which is it? better now, or before? Your comments seem contradictory. "better before, we didn't go to school, but we never disrespected anyone. I wish people could take the good things out of other cultures, and not just blindly follow them."
Ahh, thanks. I have such a positive bias towards education that your answers did not compute. I know you are probably done, but if not: 1) what exactly do you mean by disrespect? Words? Violence? 2) It sounds like she believes other cultures have corrupted/contaminated her culture, causing lack of respect. Which cultures, exactly are these, and in what ways? "Most of the youngster lack modesty, hurt people just for thinking they know better."
What, in your opinion, are the single best and worst developments/occurrences in the Arab world over the course of your lifetime? "Best was the development in general, it makes life easier. worst are the wars that have been happening and the people killing each other"
Where in Morocco do you live? I will be visiting for 2 weeks in March and would love to get an idea of what an average day is like for you, where you go, what you do, etc. Thanks so much for doing this. 'I live in Casablanca, I sit home all day watching the news, cook if I want to, and sometimes visit family. Don't do that if you come to Morocco'

I guess people are wondering whether or not she managed to pick it up, and if so, whether or not it's useful now. Guess not. "I picked up a few words, forgot them over time. I guess there wasn't much use to them. A lot of words in Moroccan dialect derive from french ones"
After being asked all of these questions, what do you think of reddit? "Nice strangers asking me questions about politics, Obama, and my virginity"
Just curious, but who do you hope wins the 2012 American election? Which candidate do you believe will be better for the Middle East? "Obama, I hate the other guy."
80 years, from morocco...what are your best food recipes? 'Bastilla' Here is a tutorial : Link to www.youtube.com
You were born in and lived in a very different time when compared to your granddaughter's generation. What are some of the things you think your granddaughter's generation have missed out on because of the differences? What are some of the things you think that this generation has benefited from because of these differences? And finally, do you have any advice for those of us who are in your granddaughter's generation? "The unity of family, we were all one family, even cousins and second cousins. Most families are torn apart these days"
"You are educated"
"Save money, treat people right, and take care of your teeth"
I'm French and my dad (a white man) grew up in Casablanca. He loved the country (we still go back there every few years) but had to leave eventually since it wasn't that safe to stay in the Maghreb at the time (1960s). So my questions are: what do you think of the French? As far as colonisation goes, were we bad or good? Did we have positive effects on the country? What about the negative ones? "the majority of them are nice, the rest are always grumpy. They never bombed houses, or killed innocents as far as I know. They helped build casablanca, and created some jobs for people. "

Have you had pigeon? How does it taste compared to chicken? "Yes, pigeon tastes better."
What technological development you experienced in your lifetime made the biggest impact on your life? What household technology did the most to make your life easier? "It was 1974, when we first bought a TV, we were very happy. It was black and white, we got a blue piece of plastic to put over it to see colors. We mostly watched some series."
After much explaining the series was "Les misérables".
Have you ever watched Casablanca? 'I've never seen it'
What is one stereotype that you have about Americans that turned out not to be true? I think that as Americans, we can be quick to stereotype others without knowing what others think of Americans, that is why I ask. And thank you both for doing this AMA. "The majority was fat, I was very surprised" She mainly went to Kentucky, and Chicago.
Can you see the High Atlas from your porch? "I am not that rich"
Did your grandmother ever love or fall in love with anyone after your grand father died?. Did she ever want to get married again?. "No, I had 6 children. I can't just get married, I had to care for them"
Do the Morrocan folk have an easier time than other North African countries, or is it too difficult to truly say? 'I wouldn't live anywhere else'

Oum kalthoum - fakarouni

How old is the granddaughter? I'm 21.
So, you too married young. did you feel pressure by your family to marry at a young age? No, I never felt pressure to marry. But most girls here do, it was (and to a degree still is) very frowned upon for a girl to get to her 30s and not marry.
Marriage was something that I never thought I would want, but it just felt right.
Do you feel like women have less rights then 50 years ago? "They definitely have more rights now, but now there is a lot of pressure on them"
If you had the power to change the past, would you still allow yourself to get married at the age of 13? (I.e. do you regret it?) "Thinking about it now, I wouldn't marry at 13. But I don't regret anything"
No one has asked you about her transition to living in the city so... How was her transition from the countryside to the city? " In the countryside I had a lot of chores to do: Get water for the day, milk cows, get wood for fire.., I was surprised about how easy life is in the city, everything is handed to you"
Would she rather country or city life? "city life."
Do you think that acceptance and understanding needs to be taught more comprehensively to the male youth? "Yes, ofcourse"
I think what Silly_vasily meant was: Does your Grandmother see Canada and United States as similar nations? That was her answer!
Could she please share her best/favourite tajine recipe? Thanks in advance, and if she prefers to keep it a family secret, that's ok! "Best is Meat with prunes and almonds, Boil the prunes with a good amount of sugar and cinnamon until they become puffy, in the tajine, put the meat, finely chopped onions, mashed garlic, chopped parsley, turmeric yellow, zafran, salt, pepper, ginger, olive oil or just regular. Add some water and close the tajine to allow it to cook. check on it from time to time to flip the meat. When cooked add prunes, almonds, and sesame. Some people decorate it with eggs"
Speaking as a Dane, how did/does she feel about the muhammad cartoon controversy a few years ago? "It was very disrespectful, and uncalled for."
What country are you from? I heard that in the 60's and 70's in Arab countries women had much more influence in the civil society, they didn't wear a veil and the culture was more open towards eachother and other countries than it is now. Is that true? What is your experience? "My children's generation was the one to break some of the rules, I remember them wanting their hair permed, and wearing make up. Your uncle used to starve himself to save up money to buy flared jeans, and cassettes, his dad would throw them away and yell at him to dress normally but he wouldn't listen"
Ps:My uncle was a beatles fan.
You said that marriage was different and the people were different back in your day than it is now in your grand daughters time. You explained the love you had between you and your husband was a different kind. Have you never experienced the type of love that your grand daughter has for her husband? "modern-day" love. Do u think it is a true type of love? If you can chose, would you chose to feel the new love or the old love? "Modern day love wouldn't work at my time. I never experienced it"
"I don't think that it isn't true, it just lacks compromise"
"I wouldn't change the way I viewed my husband"
Are you a good cook? What's the best dish that you can prepare? "Couscous with 7 vegetables and Tfaya."
Would your grandmother rather see you in a niqab or a miniskirt? "Not in Niqab, and definitely not in a miniskirt. Hijab would be nice"
What are your thoughts on evolution? Oh, and assalamualaikum. Salam Alaikum, I tried explaining evolution to her, and it was a dead end.
What do you like to do? (hobbies like knitting, painting, or gardening...) "I like to take care of my cats"
Would she want her life experiences for her children/grandchildren? " I want a better experience for them"
I have a feeling you might have stopped now, but I really want to ask, as a resident of a North-African Nation and as an Arab, what did you think of the near-by revolutions (the 'Arab Spring') and the civil-war in Libya? "I liked what happened in Tunisia, I think people knew what they wanted and went for it, Egypt is still figuring it out. Libya went the barbaric way."
Thoughts on Lebanon. Salam by the way. "May god be with you"
This is a legitimate question! For example, women in Saudi Arabia are just getting these rights now, and not all the people in Saudi Arabia agree that they should. It sounds like OP's grandma grew up in a similar environment. I asked her, she said that women should have the right to drive and vote. why? 'This is a different time'
That's interesting- I met girls from Kuwait who were college age and told me women shouldn't have the right to vote (this was around 2002 when women couldnt vote in Kuwait). They said "they would just copy their husbands vote anyway so it wouldn't change the outcome." Things in the middle east are very different, women are just getting to experience a sense of freedom, women are allowed to vote and drive, it's pretty much a given.
What is the one meal or dish that you would say exemplifies Moroccan food "It depends on the region, food is very diverse in morocco"
When you were 13 years old, you married a 40 year man... When did you had sex for the 1st time ? at 13 ?! She already answered this, yes it was at 13.
Why do you choose to follow a faith based on hate, intolerance and violence that wishes mass genocide of jews like hitler? your religion encourages domesticating women and keeping them ignorant. how do you explain to me any merits of worshiping a religion of hate? Well hairy_cock, here are my two cents, Islam isn't based on hate, intolerance and violence, a little reading (quran) will show you otherwise. And I was raised on the belief that people can follow whichever religion they want, whether it's Islam, Buddhism, flying spaghetti monster-ism. There is a saying that my grandmother always says when asked these type of question : "At the end of it all, each one of us is on his own in his grave". But I will ask her when she wakes up.
