Show 4.7 Matchcards

2020.09.14 20:40 dp517 Show 4.7 Matchcards

Nemesis
Cassidy Clark vs. April
These two have exchanged some words in the back, and with Cassidy's impressive win over Pinball Witch, she's back to earn some more accolades to her record.
Jacob Nitro vs. Samuel Black
After an impressive debut, Samuel Black took notice of a tweet that Nitro sent out calling out the abundance of competitors sharing the surname Black. Samuel felt slighted by it, and why not, lets have them settle that dispute inside the squared circle.
AlexandeRodrigo Del Gaiso vs. DWJ/Brandon
Alexander has dubbed himself "General Nemesis", whatever that means. He faces Brandon in singles action next week at Shadowbanned, but this week he teams up with another person who's known only Nemesis against two of the competitors who "drank the Vindication poison" in Dr. Wrestling Jr. and Brandon.
TJ Black vs. Brandon Cuevas
Brandon Cuevas has requested a match against Alexander, but with Alexander denying him the opportunity at revenge, he wanted to fight someone. Lucky for him, TJ Black is more than game for this considering he wants to get some action in before Jon Spartacus next week.
American Dreamboats & Clark vs. Chess Club
Another week, another handicap match. Derek and Raymondo both lost last week, but they feel like they finally got their groove back as they team up once again against their rivals in the Dreamboats and Alex Clark.
Selena Adams, Casey Sabin & Holly Queen vs Blue, Violet, and Olivia Bodom
Olivia Bodom has not commented on anything regarding the group, but he has agreed that they will be in this match. Will we get another unmasking, or will we even be able to recognize some of the moves these perpetrators pull out? I have a good feeling were going to get some answers this week.
Vindication SUPERSHOW
Church of Steele vs. Pistolero (c) - CWL Tag Team Championships, Handicap
This match will be a tag team champion defending his championships alone. What kind of madman does that? Pistolero has dropped Ziro To'a as his partner and the feeling is mutual it seems. This is prime opportunity for the Church of Steele to get that win one more time, except this time they will rightfully be the tag team champions.
Austin Wolf vs. William Black vs. MD - Falls Count Anywhere
Two wolves and a wolfslayer. Sounds like a feast! But will the wolves work together, or will they tear into each other over the territory? With the fact this will be Falls Count Anywhere, it adds a whole new layer of uncertainty.
Belle Florent vs. Danielle Wright vs. Brittany Cruz vs. Olivia Mistral - #1 contender to Openweight, Elimination
We have scoured the names of the womens division who we think deserve a shot at the Openweight Championship, and these 4 names were the ones that popped up. With Tifanie Quin being busy with Taylor Jones business, Belle Florent was deemed worthy of a possible shot at the openweight championship. Danielle Wright and Brittany Cruz both impressed in their debut, and although Brittany Cruz was not happy about her big debut being spoiled by Blxck Rose forcing the match to be handicap, now she gets a chance to show us what she's got and possibly win a contendership. Olivia Mistral wants to prove that she can win the belt once again, and she has her chance here. This is elimination, so many the best woman win!
Harris calls out Michael Young
Harris has requested some time on the show to call out Michael Young after the actions that has left the Misfits in shambles. No bell, no ref, just a fight. Will Michael Young answer the call?
Max Shearman (c) vs. Xistro Horror - Youtube Championship
The undefeated Youtube Champion vs. the undefeated S4 superstar that has made a huge splash. Someones streak will end here tonight, and Xistro Horror's new X-termination mission has been incredible to see unfold.
Chris Princess vs. Ebak - Extreme Rules
This heated rivalry comes to an end. Chris Princess and Ebak will finally clash once again, but this time it is Extreme Rules. Will Ebak be able to get revenge for the words Princess has said about his grandfather, or will Princess once again claim a victory and another victim for the FFF Banner?

2020.09.09 13:22 sunshinerainsnow Taylor’s folklore press release and Aaron dessner’s folklore comments

I keep going back to what both of them have said about folklore.
Aaron dessner seemed convinced that William Bowery is not joe Alwyn. He said it was another singer-songwriter. He also says “the 1” is not from Taylor’s POV. I find these thoughts very interesting.
If not joe Alwyn, then I think the only realistic possibility is Harry styles. No one else would use a pseudonym.
I have no idea who “the 1” is about. Thoughts?
“Peace” and “hoax” seem to be a duo of sorts. Two songs about how you take on the burdens of your romantic partner. You don’t love them in spite of their faults. You love them because of their faults etc.
However, “hoax” screams Selena Gomez POV. And this brings me back to Taylor’s press release. I’ve looked everywhere and haven’t been able to find anyone suggesting that Taylor wrote this song for Selena from her perspective.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while but never thought to share.
Here are some lyrics that relate to Selena Gomez and her relationship with Justin Bieber and how the song might be about them.
“Stood on the cliffside screaming, "Give me a reason"”
Selena Gomez has spoken publicly about her experiences with depression and suicidal thoughts.
“Your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in Don't want no other shade of blue but you”
Justin Bieber repeatedly publicly cheated on her but she kept going back. She loved him no matter what. He has publicly spoken about depression etc. but she still wanted only him, only his sadness. She wants to take on his pain.
“My best laid plan/ Your sleight of hand/ My barren land/ I am ash from your fire”
She made plans. He fucked them up. There were rumors way back when that she was pressured into have an abortion - “my barren land.”
“You knew it still hurts underneath my scars /From when they pulled me apart/ You knew the password so I let you in the door”
She had a very public kidney transplant surgery. They got back together shortly after this, after their longest break.

2020.05.05 22:18 etthusmedkossor [Results] Scratchcard lottery OR date with Ariana Grande? Repost due to..(All)

...repost due to that I edited new tinyurl-link and then the post was marked as spam. So for you who missed and want to know:
Hi guys!
Some pre-informationBefore sharing the results I’d like to ask you to do another study which somewhat grew out from this one: https://script.google.com/macros/s/AKfycbybWd-xE60jp2w44b85TMmWek0AsTLevntA_uoj9TYfZ5aKsPNP/exec (A quite short survey)
Upvote if it was alright. It’s posted in SampleSize under the title:“[Academic] Gambling, morality and promises - A short survey [All]
Backstory
So for you who missed - Me, my classmate and our university tutor leisurely talked about why people buy scratchcard lotteries when the odds of winning are so small. Our tutor is also rather creative so he thinks that it would be more fun and with an equal amount of succeeding by trying to get a date with Ariana Grande - which could lead you to a relationship with her and therefore also money.
I argued that there is some kind of difference between buying a scratchcard lottery ticket and sending an e-mail to Ariana Grande, so therefore I decided to throw together this simple survey to see what you guys thought.
Results
The charts can be found here:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Ce4VV1s44430nspcpl7EO_Jola7fP9ry05h1om6tAg8/viewanalytics
The raw data here:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EV5LL4Pz_UyeEy_2K_PkEG3Xl8AeQhEzCRWQvZjDk9g/edit?usp=sharing
Total respondents: 882
Some interesting points from these answers:
Common answers for why the date:
  1. Emma Watson 37 persons
  2. No one 34 (at least)
  3. Tom Holland 22
  4. Taylor Swift 21
  5. Harry Styles 18
  6. Scarlet Johansson 16
  7. Don’t know 15 (at least)
  8. Chris Hemsworth 13
  9. Selena Gomez 12
  10. Ryan Reynolds 11
  11. Margot Robbie 11
  12. Emma Stone 10
  13. Alexandra Daddario 10
  14. Ariana Grande 9
  15. ….........Jesus 1
(Someone actually wanted to get a date with me! :o But sadly I’m already in a relationship… But maybe I can hook you up with a friend of mine!)
Where from here?
Ok, so I don’t know if we really found out something interesting. Instead I got more questions in my head:
What do you guys think? Cause I don’t know! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Lastly,
Again, please do this other study that grew out from this one. It’s part of my final exam so would be lovely to get some participants! :)

2020.03.09 17:13 VHalliewell Why Even Dracula Will Be There: An Analysis of Philosophy of the World by the Shaggs

Passion is the biggest drive for many of our favorite pop acts. It drives many artists to seek inspiration and improve themselves, but what happens when sisters that initially did not want to make music form a band. And what happens when those sisters were not coached on how to improve. Well, they inspire Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain for one.
The story of the Shaggs begins with their grandma who saw a palm reader. The palm reader predicted that her son (Austin Wiggin) would marry a strawberry blonde woman, have two daughters after she died, and the daughter would become a successful music group. The first two predictions came true, and the father decided to try to make the third one come true. Austin pulled three of his daughters, Dorothy, Betty, and Helen Wiggin, out of his high school to form a band. They would practice because under their father's watchful eye. They performed at live shows and were met with negative reception to satisfy their father. Their father was the one who got the record. When their father tragically passed away, they went on a long hiatus.
What does a group that did not want to make music sound like. Well according to the Rolling Stone, "a lobotomized Trapp family." Philosophy of the World is a difficult album. I only recently was able to listen to it entirely because it is abrasive, and I am not going to lie that I laughed at times due to the content. It is quite coincidental that I got into them so close to the anniversary. The instrumentation is often out of time. The lyrics are incredibly amateurish, but attempt a pop structure. Their vocals are monotonous and pitchy. With so much wrong, why has this album persisted and acquired a cult following. Why did Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain love it? At first, I didn't understand until a conversation with u/Ghost-Quartet (great poster). The reason this album is an inspiration is because of how raw it is. Modern pop stars such as Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift try to present an image of relate-ability and authenticity. Indie acts will often present themselves as quirky outsiders. Yet at the end of the day, all of the artists dedicated their lives to their art out of love. Some of those artists live a very charmed live. Their music will always be polished. The Shaggs for all their flaws will be authentic because they cannot be polished, and the reaction do it be it laughter, curiosity, or understanding will be just as raw.
Today is the 51st anniversary of Philosophy of the World. I did not see much discussion on them prior. Also, it feels right that the Shaggs have their 51st anniversary celebrated and not their 50th.

Philosophy of the World

Oh the rich people want what the poor people's got
And the poor people want what the rich people's got
And the skinny people want what the fat people's got
And the fat people want what the skinny people's got
On the opening track, The Shaggs declare that everyone wants something different, and the best way to live your life is to ignore what everyone else thinks. This is a theme that was later used by Kacey Musgraves in her acclaimed hit "Follow Your Arrow." This song also features a lot of their flaws. Comparing haircuts to wealth inequality is a bit tone depth, and the phrasing is awkward (recurring theme). Also, Kacey focused on others reactions to the behavior not the behavior itself. The moral of the song still holds true.

That Little Sports Car

There was a sports car on the road (On the road)
I thought I knew the fellow that drove
That little sports car was slippery as an oyster
Following it was like riding a roller coaster (Roller coaster)
In the opening lines, the Shaggs demonstrate their awkward rhyming abilities as they tell the tale of trying to follow a sports car to talk to the driver. They end up losing the car and get lost. They come home and decide to never roam. This is the first of three tracks in a row with a theme of conformity and obey the rules. Normally, when those themes are tackled in pop music, the theme is break from the norm such as in "We R Who We R" by Kesha. The Shaggs throughout the album preach the value order. This perspective makes them unique. Most people who become musicians are inherently rebellious or are trying to appeal the rebels. The Shaggs are not making music out of rebellion. Not making music would be a rebellion for them.

Who Are Parents?

Who are parents?
Parents are the ones who really care
Who are parents?
Parents are the ones who are always there
This is the second track in their line of songs that preach order. As the call and response chorus indicates, parents know what is best for their children, and the children should obey. This song encourages kids to have empathy for their parents because, in spite of what Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jay say, parents do understand. Other artists have written songs about their parents, but those song have the benefit of hindsight. Those songs such as "A Song for Mama" by Boyz II Men was written by an adult looking back at their life. The Shaggs are in the heat of the moment singing about how great parents are. There is an almost cruel irony to the song though since it was their father who forced them to make music and caused them to be an infamous band.

My Pal Foot Foot

My pal Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
Always likes to roam
My pal Foot Foot (Foot Foot)
Now he has no home
This song was inspired by their cat Foot Foot that was lost. Foot Foot is found in the song, but in real life, they never found Foot Foot. This is the final song that explicitly pushes the message of conformity. Foot Foot decided to roam, and they lost him. The consequences of straying of a set path have been analyzed in other songs (usually about more serious topics such as addiction). The Shaggs decide to use their cat for a metaphor. This shows how sheltered they were. They were never exposed to the harsh nature of drug abuse and trauma. That is not to say their life was wonderful, but this lack of life experience in that regard contributes to their perspective.

My Companion

My companion is, of course
My radio
Even though the Shaggs might not have wanted to be in a band, they still liked music. My companion is about their attachment to their radio. In 1969, there were limited avenues for music, and radio was king. They probably mostly listened to the pop songs of the time which informed their songwriting throughout the album.

I'm So Happy When You're Near

But when you have to leave
Then I'll start to grieve
Five tracks into the album is where the Shaggs first tackle the most popular topic in pop music, love. This song is about the feelings of sadness when a partner is away, and the joy when they return. This is a feeling that was more common in 1969 when people were not a text away, but the isolation that comes from separation is still present just not as powerful. They do not want to keep being separated from their partner for too long, but they understand that this separation is a part of the relationship for now.

Things I Wonder

I wonder, I wonder
I wonder why we have to say goodbye
There are some things I don't understand
There are some things I do
Continuing the theme from the previous track, "Things I Wonder" tackles the confusion that occurs when a relationship is not going too smooth. When relationships go poorly, one might start pondering the nature of the universe such as the stars and the birds. The Shaggs chant at the end how things will never change, but since they doubt the relationship will they stay the same?

Sweet Thing

In the end you will find
I was only trying to be a friend
In the end you will see
That I'm not the fool
But it's you, yes, you're the fool
The answer to the "Things I Wonder" is that the relationship did resolve. Their partner was a fool, and he was not a sweet thing. Calling him a fool and sarcastically a sweet thing is about as aggressive as they can get. The emotions and sting of the words are still present. The Shaggs have declared their independence from this fool. This fool will get what is coming. The Shaggs are ready to move on.

It's Halloween

The ghosts will spook
The spooks will scare
Why, even Dracula will be there
Before Kim Petras, the Shaggs were the queens of Halloween. They are getting over their man by partying with Frankenstein and Cinderella. Halloween is a time for fun for everyone.

Why Do I Feel?

Sometimes I feel funny
All bottled up inside
Then for some reason
I just start to cry
Emotions are complicated. Everyone has had a moment when they did not understand why the felt sad. This lack of understanding can often contribute to those feelings of sadness. All that is left is to sit there and wonder why. The lyrics of this song with a bit more polish could easily pass as a modern pop song since depression has become a popular topic with artists such as Halsey and Billie Eilish.

What Should I Do?

What should I do?
What should I do?
Tell me, tell me
What should I do?
The answer to why they are feeling sad is regret over breaking up with that boy. They know the boy is bad for them, but they cannot stop thinking about him. Maybe he deserves a second chance, maybe he doesn't. They don't know the answer and are crying out for guidance on this topic. Young love is not always sweet.

We Have a Savior

Why does the world go unholy?
Why does everyone fight more and more?
The Shaggs being good teenage girls in 1969 are quite religious (Christian). This theme shows up as they ponder why the world is wrought with difficulties. The savior in this song is presented as being able to fix the problems with the world. This song does further illustrate their naivety as a lot of the problem do not have the simple solution of praying. Also, this song is also the title of a song by popheads' favorite church Hillsong. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
The Shaggs did reunite after more practice which shows them as competent musicians, but they did not attract the same fanfare. Their sister and brothers joined the group for a brief period of time. Helen also tragically passed away in 2006. The Shaggs are a type of group that is rarely seen. On the one hand, there is that "The Room" type element to them that attracts laughter and aversion. On the other hand, it is fascinating to see a group that really didn't want to make music create such a raw and unfiltered album.
To continue this discussion, what is the initial reaction you had when listening to this album? Why do you think this album has persisted and inspired, and its place in Outsider Music canon? Which bands are most comparable to the Shaggs? Is Outsider Music more common in the days of Soundcloud rap?

2020.01.10 08:47 RedHeadReviews Here's my review of the brand new Selena Gomez album 'Rare'!!! What does everyone else think??

The third studio album, ‘Rare’ from artist Selena Gomez is one that sees a change of pace, as she infuses several elements of the dance-pop genre and at times Latin flavour to indicate her passing and moving on from late stages of past relationships. Prior to this release, Selena has always had her figure shrouded in the media largely in regards to the status of her personal life and connections with other artists in the industry, so an album of this nature feels like the appropriate sign and best medium for her to truly address and output everything and anything to give her music life.
The album’s opening track ‘Rare’ feels like a strangely weak introductory track to an album that seems to address Selena’s past mix-ups in the public eye. The mix on the production sounds unpolished, as the production during the verses sees the percussive elements muffled, missing any sense of crisp and directory maintaining in regards to creating a foundation. Selena’s vocals on the track feel forced here, with a nondescript nature to them. She lacks character, and for a track that's lyrical content is concerned with being special and rare, she ends up sounding like a million other artists. Whilst this empowerment anthem, sees Selena take pride and confidence in herself and seek for such qualities in a partner, the track feels like it comes from origins that feel utterly lifeless and uninspired. In regards to both production and vocal performance Selena sounds as if she’s incapable of evoking such a unique or powerful sound, on a track that demands audiences to delve into the realisation of Selena being a ‘rare’ occurrence.
‘Dance Again’ is the first track to demonstrate the strong dance appeal that appears throughout the album. The song is built upon a thick twang that is a funky bass that drives the inescapable funk of the record. Selena on this track simultaneously shows her unfortunate reliance on vocal effects on the track, as multiple times throughout the album are synth effects unnecessarily and sloppily added to her vocals. This ultimately removes character and any full tone she had on her own and instead is the culprit of many an annoying sound that can be heard. Whilst the pure dance track is swamped in a rich bass that sustains a fantastic groove, Selena seemingly gets lost amongst the production and fails to have any true vocal presence on the track.
Following the trend of dance tracks comes the third song on the album, ‘Look At Her Now’. This track is the utter low point of the album as it is so devoid of any sense of character or creative input. Not only is Selena drenched in vocal effects to completely remove any sense of character or flavour in her vocals, but what is left over is an insipid sound that grows tiresome and irritating as soon as it is introduced. The chorus is so devoid of anything, as vocally, Selena is simply not a presence, matched with lyrics that largely consist of ‘Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm’. Production-wise, the song continues to hinder itself from gaining any character as what is there is so uninspired and simply manufactured to service an ever-expanding demand for quantity of music. This is the height of a sound that is artificial in nature as Selena as an artist feels so far removed from every aspect of the song. In many ways, it feels like the song birthed from years and years of analytics pinpointing successful trends in pop jammed into one catastrophe of a track.
‘Lose You To Love Me’ whilst is set up as a powerful track that finds its power in its own subtle understatement is perhaps the most shallow song on the album. Vocally Selena has no emotion or vocal power on the track, in a sense, this is very much reminiscent of Rachel Platten’s ‘Fight Song’, which has intentions of being an empowerment track, but houses vocals that not only fail to inspire or rally listeners but has its performers sounding more uninspired than ever. The production is watered down to a majority of the track being withered piano chords, so much so have they been dimmed that they too fail to evoke any feeling or craft any kind of memorable sound. The track manages to reach a climax on the back end of the track with background vocals that sound intense and grandiose, building a true sense of supreme empowerment, however, this is just one portion of a track that feels as if Selena has made with the intent of being deceitfully inspiring. What’s more, to add to the commercial veil of the track is the obvious inspiration from long-time ex Justin Bieber. At the time of the release of the track, the two’s public warfare was long dissolved, if anything the tracks further accentuates Selena’s corporate phoniness as she plays into petty marketing tactics and fiddles with deceased controversy.
The track ‘Ring’ is a much-needed breath of fresh air as Selena incorporates a touch of Spanish inspired groove in the production. Similar in vein to recent success such as Camilla Cabello’s ‘Havana’, Selena utilises elements from Latina pop to create a smooth, slick dance rhythm that has an undeniable coolness to it. The addition of string instruments brings a level of depth to the instrumental, as they ascend and descend, with each introduction the track only gets smoother and more sensual. This is the most in touch Selena has sounded in terms of complementing the production throughout the album, as her vocal performance which is somewhat swung fits perfectly into the smooth, laid back, Spanish derived jam. This almost adheres to a rule inspiring that the less she tries the better she sounds here, as her laid back performance only serves as an invigorating level of sensual performance. Selena feels in touch with a sound that is evidently influenced by ethnic background, in this case, the less the brain works and the more the body works, the better the track gets.
Selena deploys several different vocal styles throughout the run time of the album, and on the track ‘Vulnerable’ she approaches the track in a breathy tone. This is contrasted in the pre-chorus section in regards to dynamic, but the underlying issue lies within her bland voice. Selena’s vocal presence goes in one ear and out there other on this track. In an attempt to craft a mood through contrast Selena creates a track that trips over its own confusion. The track features a largely instrumental bridge, yet this track doesn't have any of the pleasant, dance prone qualities that were seen in other tracks. Lyrically, Selena has made this song many time and time again, as at its core the song could ultimately be summed up by the title. Selena’s interpretation of a vulnerable is nothing of note as this as some of the most lifeless and forgettable lyrics across her catalog.
Selena trades natural blandness for artificial substitution on the track ‘People You Know’. A recurring theme on the album is Selena’s overreliance on synth assistance in regard to her vocal performance. On the track, it fails to add anything of value and removes any natural edge or sense of projection Selena would normally bring to a track. With the exception of the pre-chorus section, the production is so heavily stripped back that Selena is left almost solely in the spotlight. Left with only a loose shell of the performer she is in the instance her synth-heavy vocals fail to leave any lasting taste. When Selena isn’t reminiscing of past connections, a subject that seems to be one of a limited selection throughout the album, she again reverts to a devolved form of language, this time repeating ‘Dum-dum-dum, da-da-dum-dum-dum’, this is where she allows herself to be a host body for a near-complete computer-generated form of music, as there isn’t an ounce of character left in this song.
On the track ‘Kinda Crazy’ Selena reverts again to adopting her breathy airy vocals to establish a tone that seemingly crafts the storyline of the track. Her sound speaks volumes to the inquisitive nature of her being and position in the song as she is wary of the crazy behaviour of a lover of hers. The tonal decision by Selena causes audiences to put themselves in her position as she manages to set the tone perfectly. The tracks highlight is found within the production, with the introduction of a subtle trumpet melody which sounds as if it were defeated, in this instance, the trumpet it the truest representation of the emotion Selena attempts to achieve here. The rest of the production with the slick guitar and her vocal refrains create a very ethereal and transcendent sound on the track. This plays further into the narrative as perhaps Selena’s distant-sounding vocals come from a place of distance from her lover.
Selena continues her saga of addressing past relationships on the track ‘Cut You Off’, as she describes moving on from a boy who is clearly no good for her. This in many ways sounds much like Selena adopting the vocal techniques and style of a million different pop divas that have seen success within recent memory. She sounds like every other charting artist, yet simultaneously nothing. Selena in regard to vocal performance feels confused with who she is, as she extracts every positive quality from widely shared effects to craft a sound that is so lackluster and deprived of any meaning. She again relies on vocal gimmicks that include the break down of language for her ‘oo ooo ooo ooo’s’ which sound like a poor imitation of an element Taylor Swift would associate with. Production-wise the track never truly manages to take off, the percussion and bass feel to clumsily added in, adding nothing in the way of value or musical interest. Even more confusing are the clumsily added submarine radar-like noises that stain the song from start to finish, as well as the lazily included guitar solo, which is so out of place with the rest of the song. What lyrical value there ever was to begin with gets lost amongst the astonishingly lazy and clumsy instrumental layers.
The conclusive track of the album, ‘A Sweeter Place’ sees Selena at an element out of her comfort zone. The sinister sounding production that is swamped out in dark synths and spacey production stylistically seems to favour the guest artist on the track, Kid Cudi. In amongst the warping and harsh synth noises that constantly conflict with the glossy piano chords, beautiful distortion is crafted, a sound Kid Cudi fits all too well into. His inclusion accentuates the true eerie and bone chilling nature of the song and the dark tones associated with escaping reality in order to find a sweeter place. Selena’s involvement in her own song feels like an act and a thinly veiled one at that too. Even with her sound being drenched in vocal effects, which are so poorly mixed and mastered, to the point where her vocal layers dominate her own voice, she still feels so out of place. Unwelcome on the conclusive track of her long awaited album, the song belongs to and was crafted with Kid Cudi in mind. The two also have a complete fumble of chemistry on the track, this is attributed more to the point of Selena sounding more like a sample on her own song, as she fails to adapt to the tonal change up that champions Kid Cudi.
‘Rare’ doesn’t sit well being deemed a Selena Gomez album, but rather strikes well being marketed as an album of experimental instrumentals. What is on show is ultimately the talent of the culminated efforts of pop producers behind the force of brand power. Track after track Selena fails to stand out, not just as a performer in her own right, but amongst the production. Even more credit to the notion of Selena’s wasteful name power is the lack of actual Selena that can be heard. To supplement the performers lack of character, charisma and unique vocal presence, her sound is dominated by vocal effects and synth assistance to allow her to even leave a lasting splash on her songs. Outside the strictly musical concerns of the record, is the amount of Selena’s personal life that manages to make its way onto each song. Yes, this is something globally celebrated and done by artists, but in no other case is the artist completely confined to, and as such defined by the trials and tribulations of failed love with other artists in the public eye quite like Selena. What becomes overwhelming obvious throughout the record is her self compensation for a lack of character, being made up for in her connections and relations to those with perhaps too much. Whilst Selena is complemented by and handed the tools to craft an album that would truly stand out amongst her discography, she renders herself to the remains of past love, and fails to live up to expectations vocally, that are established by the behind the scenes collaborators.
Selena Gomez - Rare - 4/10

2019.12.30 08:16 BarryTuck My life as a Swiftie Husband...

Hello Swifties!
My name is Barry, and I am a 43 year old South African guy, so probably a rarity here. Growing up I was mainly into alternative music and rock, and generally didn’t pay much attention to pop...
About four years ago my life took an unexpected turn when, overnight, my wife transformed into a #Swiftie. Perhaps the transformation was gradual, but it felt like it was sudden - either way it’s been a strange journey since, so I thought I’d share some of my experiences as a #SwiftieHusband.
First, some advice for other current or future partners of a Swiftie. If you are in a relationship with a Swiftie, you need to make peace with the fact that it is a polyamorous relationship, and that you are the not the primary partner. Don’t resist or challenge it. Just accept it.
Secondly, celebrate how easy gifting has become. You can buy your partner the Reputation album for the fifth birthday in a row, and they will still cry with the joy of a four-year old at a Peppa Pig concert. Sorry, Iggy.
Now, some observations, and I apologise that these are from the perspective of a dude in a heterosexual marriage. I am certain the observations will resonate no matter your orientation or gender... So bear with me.
As a #SwiftieHusband, you will wake up every morning with Taylor lyrics in your head. Sometimes they are simply in your head, embedded there after watching five hours of music videos the previous night. Other times they are being played at full volume somewhere in the house. Even if it is 2am.
Birthday parties will end up with a group of friends on the couch watching the 1989 World Tour video. Probably three times in a row. Yes, even if it is your own birthday party and your friends are primarily 30 and 40-something metalheads.
You understand the deeper meaning of otherwise random words and terms such as “snake”, “13”, “Starbucks lovers”, “Sydney”, “maple lattes”, “1989”, “1, 2, 3, let’s go bitch”, “sonically cohesive”, “Gxgjxkhdkdkydkhdkhfjvjfj “ and “scooter”. Yes, the Swiftiverse has its own lexicon.
Holidays and overseas trips are planned primarily around tour dates. Hours are spent sitting online trying to get concert tickets. Tears are shed regularly because South Africa is not on the tour list...
Meredith Grey is not a Grey’s Anatomy character. Olivia Benson is not an officer in Law & Order. Benjamin Button is not a movie character played by Brad Pitt.
At any given time, you will hear the phrase “Yaaaaaassssss, Bitch!!!” being screamed from some place in the house. Don’t panic. Casually make your way towards the disturbance and enquire: “What has Tay done now?”
Sleep deprivation is the norm. Alarms are set for all hours of the night (yes, often 2am) to coincide with new music video releases and to watch interviews on random TV shows or YouTube broadcasts.
You begin to realise how much money could be made off Taylor Swift album release advent calendars.
There were five holes in the fence.
Hair will be dyed pink. Nails will be painted paisley. And not just yours. Hers too.
You begin to analyse everything, looking for Easter eggs. What were the words written on the wall in the background in that shot? How many trees are on the horizon there? And then you remember that you are watching an episode of The Walking Dead, and not a Taylor Swift music video.
Friends will be enlisted to mule merch back from overseas.
There will be talk of matching butterfly back tattoos.
Whenever you are upset or have had a tough day in the office, you will receive advice such as: “Take a deep breath, girl!” or “Shake it off.”
You dislike Calvin Harris. You don’t know why. But you do. Dick.
When your significant other says something like: “Oh, this bish is just dragging us now!” “This bish” is always Taylor Alison Swift. “Us” is not you and your wife. “Us” is the millions of random Swifties around the world. And your wife.
You know who Selena, Gigi, Billy, Cara, Ed, Lily, Todrick and Karlie are without having to ask for surnames. Apparently, we no longer like Karlie.
Every time you visit a new city, you are sent to ask the hotel concierge or local tourist info office if there is a “dive bar on the East side”.
You can’t drive past a Christmas Tree farm without stopping.
It is now safe to talk about Katy Perry again. Side note: Am I the only person who calls her K-Pizzle?
You learn to always carry tissues. Because All Too Well could be played at any random moment - over the radio, in a shopping mall, at a restaurant - and there will be tears. And blubbering about a scarf.
You find yourself unexpectedly interjecting strange terms and phrases into your conversations. For instance, at a client meeting discussing a major issue that has been resolved, you’ll inadvertently say, “Are we out of the woods yet?”
Questions like “When was music invented?” will illicit answers such as: “On the 13th of December 1989.”
For some inexplicable reason, you have become an expert in US Entertainment Law, understanding the subtle nuances of copyright, masters ownership and the structure of recording deals and contracts.
To ensure that you can remain a part of your partner’s life, and maintain the natural harmony of your home, you feel compelled to follow Taylor on every digital platform.
Without realising it, you begin counting CAPITALISED letters in tweets. You question the relevance of a star, a butterfly or a colour palette in an Instagram post. You begin scouring lyrics, searching for meaning. You listen to the songs, seeking relevance to the symbolism. And then, in moments of self-awareness and introspection, you wonder what your life has become.
And then it hits you. Like a screaming, crying, perfect storm.
You are no longer a #SwiftieHusband. Like your wife, you have become a crackhead #Swiftie.

Kieley Taylor: Six ways you can get the most out of Instagram and its influencers

img
One of the hottest topics in advertising in recent years has been the rise in influencer marketing — hardly a surprise considering the growing array of internet stars who have the power to promote a brand with a single post that’s seen by millions, their legions of fans, and the proven effectiveness of social media as a marketing medium.
In particular, we have witnessed uplift on social channels where brands employ user-generated content versus those that post content created by brands, and Instagram has proved to be an especially powerful platform when it comes to content creators making real connections with consumers, especially younger consumers.
According to Instagram, 68% of its regular users visit the platform specifically to interact with creators, while the platform boasts a reported engagement rate of 2.2%, trumping other platforms like Facebook. Influencer-based campaigns have a record of delivering measurable results for marketers, across all verticals, not only the ones traditionally associated with influencer marketing. For example, GroupM’s influencer content and amplification solution INCA, partnered with financial services client Nationwide as part of an award-winning campaign ‘Together against Hate’. INCA partnered with 50 relevant influencers with a combined followership of 3.4 million, targeting 80,000 engagements. The campaign ended up delivering over 170,000 engagements. That's over two times above the initial target. It’s little wonder, then, that 65% percent of brands said they planned to increase their influencer marketing budgets this year compared to 39% last year.
Here are six tips for getting the most out of the platform and the influencers who call it home.
1) First, consider what you want to achieve from an Instagram partnership, doing the necessary research and taking the time and care to develop the brief. Influencer marketing can be used for a range of goals along the customer journey. If you’re looking to grow followers, for example, then click-throughs are less important. Or, perhaps you hope to build brand awareness, boost consumer engagement with your brand by way of shares and likes, increase app installs, boost lead generation, or grow your conversion rate? Determine from the beginning what your goals are and whether your campaign supports them. This will inform the metrics to measure your campaign’s effectiveness and determine the platform’s ultimate role in your marketing strategy.
2) Take into account how your influencer campaign will be priced and measured. According to one estimate, a brand will pay somewhere between 20 cents and $2 per click for a post on Instagram. On a CPM basis, the cost would average about $5 per 1,000 visitors. With the pricing and your budget in mind, you will want to consider variables such as the reach you anticipate, outcomes according to a range of metrics including viewability and engagement, the type of content you want to create, and how an Instagram campaign compares to other platforms.
3) Find an Instagram marketing expert to advise you on the best strategic approach to take in influencer and content marketing, someone who is intimate with the process and can guide you through the creation and management of a campaign and who has access to the creators who will ultimately represent your brand. Find a partner who can get you up to speed on the ever-changing technology that enables maximum opportunity for marketers that use Instagram, who is well-versed in the tools that will help you drive sales, for example, or boost traffic to your e-commerce site. Crucially, partner with someone who has brand safety top of mind, who is familiar with the creative output of influencers and who can review and sign off on any content promoting your brand before it goes live.
  1. Consider the creative beyond the post. Determine your amplification strategy and whether you might be using content from the initial campaign across other channels, and how it will be used. The lifespan of Instagram posts has taken on a whole new dimension thanks to the Paid Partnership tool introduced by Instagram earlier this year, enabling brands to repurpose influencer posts as ads in a consumer’s feed — regardless of whether the consumer follows the influencer. The result is that the reach and influence of those original posts have grown exponentially. When considering an investment in a creator, value both the anticipated distribution, the relevance captured with their audience, as well as the creative itself. There are more ways to extend the distribution of creator developed content within programmatic buys, in digital out of home, on your own website, just be mindful of usage rights.
  2. Naturally, creative matters whatever the marketing platform — and Instagram is certainly no exception. While you will want to design a campaign that will meet your business expectations and goals, you don’t want to stifle creativity, particularly on Instagram, where creators and brands alike have taken experimentation and expression to a whole new level. Consider the inventive, boundary-pushing post this year by popular singer Billie Eilish for Calvin Klein, which was viewed nearly 25 million times in its first three months. (Likewise, brands such as Lego, Vans and Sephora have produced famously creative ads for their own Instagram accounts, earning millions of followers in the process.) Insofar as influencers, remember that when you’re investing in Instagram, you are investing in your partner’s persona, voice, and his or her ability to front content that’s engaging, effective and one-of-a-kind. It is also worth understanding if an influencer has represented a category competitor previously. Look also to understand if the level of interaction with their handle content materially falls when they’re doing sponsored content. Given regulatory oversight be sure to work with an influencer who prominently discloses when they are being compensated.
  3. On that point, it is crucial to identify and partner with the right influencer, and to determine whether the type of content he or she creates makes sense for your brand. Selena Gomez and Christiano Ronaldo may reach millions of people, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best partners for you. What factors should a marketer consider when selecting the right influencers for an Instagram push, including not only the sort of content they’re known for but also the audiences they serve? What led these influencers to amass a social media following in the first place? Given reports of “fan” buying, using third party verification sources like Sylo are recommended to make sure you’re truly getting what you pay for. Do the consumers who flock to them align with a brand’s own audience targets? Which verticals does an influencer align with? Where is the influencer based, and where are his or her fans? All internet celebrities are not created equal — nor is every Instagram influencer the right pick for your brand.

2019.08.14 15:57 oh-thats-deep-shit [M4F] Longterm Celebrity Relationship! :D

Hey there people of RoleplayPartnerSearch,
I’m looking for a detailed partner who’s interested to work out a roleplay within a celebrity context. I am looking to working out a longterm romance with build-up, and good amounts of smut. I’ll probably play as a non-famous person, and we could work on the potential drama that ensues with a relationship like that. Issues with fame, like or privacy and so on. Lots to discuss! :D
As for what I look from a partner, good grammar, punctuation, capitalisation and overall well articulated exchanges are appreciated. I enjoy collaboratively improvising and building great fun stories. However, I’m completely open to both giving and receiving criticism and discussion, all for the good of the overall story and our individual experiences.
I don’t necessarily want you to write a million lines per exchange, but however it does make the overall experience fun when there is effort in each response. Size can be appropriately adjusted with the circumstances and I also appreciate attention to detail, especially while describing actions.
A short list of a few celebrities that enjoy playing with:
Mainstream Actresses:
Mainstream Artists/Musicians:
I prefer to roleplay on Discord and Discord only.
If interested, please send me a PM on Reddit, and we can move to Discord once we figure out if we’re a good match. I would love to have a list of your favourite celebrities both from and outside my list, and some kinks or ideas for roleplays, if you have any, in the same PM.
Thanks for going through this!

2019.07.27 12:14 oh-thats-deep-shit [M4F] Longterm Celebrity Relationship!

2019.07.26 07:17 oh-thats-deep-shit [M4F] Detailed Celebrity Roleplay! :D

Hey there,
I’m looking for a detailed partner who’s interested to work out roleplays within a celebrity context. I am open and free to discuss any range and tonality of roles from a longterm romance with build-up, to a one-off seduction scenario to even something darker and grittier with elements of non-con or blackmail.

A short list of a few celebrities that enjoy playing with:
Mainstream Actresses:
Mainstream Artists/Musicians:
YouTubers:
As for where I would like for us to roleplay, I would actually prefer not to do so on Reddit. My highest priority is Discord, else we can work it out on Kik.
If interested, please send me a PM on Reddit, and we can move to an appropriate platform once we figure out if we’re a good match. I would love to have a list of your favourite celebrities both from and outside my list, and some kinks or ideas for roleplays, if you have any, in the same PM.
Thanks for going through this!

No Kill Squad. Only one can come out on top.

Kyle wanted a real challenge for his third defence. So he has chosen his own opponent, unknown to all.
Men's Battle Lines Elimination Tag Match
Last Year, Nemesis swept Vindication. This year, Vindication has Nemesis former captain on their side. As well as a mystery partner that hasn’t been revealed yet. Will Vindication take the day, or is history going to repeat itself once more?
Kel Vallen vs. Davina Rose
Despite all her accolades. Kel Vallen has never done one thing, and that’s beat Davina Rose. With Kel possibly stronger than she’s ever been, and Davina finally getting back to her top form. This is the main event to end all main events.

2019.01.30 15:52 santaschesthairs 2019 is looking to be a really, really exciting year for film. I’ve compiled a comprehensive list of 50+ upcoming original/adapted films that are showing real promise, and 25+ major franchise/sequel films. Includes summaries, links, and details. Enjoy!

TL;DR: this year is insane.

Let me dive right in - hopefully I hit the 300 character minimum.

Original/adapted/stand-alone films:

Midsommar
A horror film from break-out director Ari Aster (Hereditary).
A young couple travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown and attend its mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly descends into a bizarre and violent competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
Directed by Ari Aster. Starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter and William Jackson Harper.

Ad Astra
A sci-fi film with Brad Pitt - I’m itching for a trailer.
Army Corps engineer Roy McBride embarks on a mission across the galaxy to discover the truth about his father, who disappeared in space 20 years ago while searching for signs of alien life.
Directed by James Gray. Starring Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Ruth Negga.

Knives Out
Rian Johnson is a touch controversial after The Last Jedi, but he's undeniably very talented. He directed the best Breaking Bad episode after all.
Modern-day murder mystery in the classic Agatha Christie whodunit style.
Directed by Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi, Ozymandias). Starring Daniel Craig, Lakeith Stanfield, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Toni Collette.

The Irishman
A Scorsese film with Netflix that’s gone seriously over-budget, bound to be enjoyable.
A mob hit man recalls his possible involvement with the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.
Starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pesci and Ray Romano.

Little Women
A Greta Gertwig film with an outstanding cast. I’m excited. I also have a feeling this will have some play in the 2019 Oscars
Four sisters come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War.
Directed by Greta Gertwig. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, James Norton, Louis Garrel and Bob Odenkirk.

Velvet Buzzsaw
You’ve probably already seen the trailer. An art-world horror-satire from Dan Gilroy, on Netflix in Feb.
Big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce. After a series of paintings by an unknown artist are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art.
Directed by Dan Gilroy. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo and Toni Collette.

Uncut Gems
Adam Sandler taking on a serious role by the directors of Good Time (2017). If it has any of the same intensity or grit as Good Time this could be awesome.
Set in the diamond district of New York City, Howard Ratner, a jewelry store owner and dealer to the rich and famous, must find a way to pay his debts when his merchandise is taken from one of his top sellers and girlfriend.
Directed by the Safdie brothers. Starring Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield and The Weeknd.

The Report
This got pretty great reviews at Sundance, I’m excited.
The story of Daniel Jones, lead investigator for the US Senate’s sweeping study into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation Program, which was found to be brutal, immoral and ineffective. With the truth at stake, Jones battled tirelessly to make public what many in power sought to keep hidden.
Directed by Scott Z. Burns. Starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Morrison.

Ford v. Ferrari
Awesome cast, great story, and directed by the guy behind Logan.
Follows an eccentric, determined team of American engineers and designers, led by automotive visionary Carroll Shelby and his British driver, Ken Miles, who are dispatched by Henry Ford II with the mission of building from scratch an entirely new automobile with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship.
Directed by James Mangold. Starring Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Jon Bernthal and Tracy Letts.

Late Night
This got some pretty great reviews at Sundance.
Legendary late-night talk show host’s world is turned upside down when she hires her only female staff writer. Originally intended to smooth over diversity concerns, her decision has unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women separated by culture and generation are united by their love of a biting punchline.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra. Starring Emma Thompson Mindy Kaling.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Holy shit.
A faded TV actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Helter Skelter reign of terror in 1969 Los Angeles.
Directed by Quentin Tarantino. Cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Tim Roth, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Dakota Fanning,James Marsden, Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Damon Herriman and Scoot McNairy.
jesus christ i cannot wait

Us
If this is as spoopy as the trailer uh oh.
Husband and wife Gabe and Adelaide Wilson take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends. But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.
Directed by Jordan Peele. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker.

The Lighthouse
Next film from the guy behind the VVitch
The story of an aging lighthouse keeper named Old who lives in early 20th-century Maine.
Directed by Robert Eggers. Starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson.

High Life
Really good reviews, sci-fi that looks like it could be pretty trippy.
A father and his daughter struggle to survive in deep space where they live in isolation.
Directed by Claire Denis. Starring Robert Pattinson.

Radegund
A Terrence Mallick movie, so it's going to be divisive, but the plot does have potential.
Told through real wartime letters, this love story finds a couple in conflict with the members of their close-knit town, their church, their government, and even their friends — all of which brings them to a dramatic choice.
Directed by Terrence Mallick. Starring August Deihl and Valerie Pachner.

Luce
I know every movie is called a sign of the times, but this one seems particularly geared towards the current politics. Really good Sundance reviews.
A star athlete and top student, Luce’s idealized image is challenged by one of his teachers when his unsettling views on political violence come to light, putting a strain on family bonds while igniting intense debates on race and identity.
Directed by Julius Onah. Starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Octavia Spencer.

The Souvenir
This one just got rave reviews at Sundance.
A quiet film student begins finding her voice as an artist while navigating a turbulent courtship with a charismatic but untrustworthy man.
Directed by Joanna Hogg. Starring Honor Swinton-Byrne, Tom Burke, Tilda Swinton and Richard Ayoade.

Untitled Noah Baumbach Project
This one is obviously a bit unknown. But the cast looks amazing, and if it turns out as good as The Meyerowitz Stories, I can't wait to watch. Will be a Netflix film.
Directed by Noah Baumbach. Starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johannsen, Laura Dern and Greta Gertwig.

Honey Boy
Great reviews from Sundance, 100% on RT as of now.
The story of a child star attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father over the course of a decade, loosely based on Shia LaBeouf’s life.
Directed by Alma Har’el. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Lucas Hedges and yada yada.

Queen & Slim
Very interesting premise, and Daniel Kaluuya.
The film centers on a black man and black woman who go on a first date that goes awry after the two are pulled over by a police officer at a traffic stop. They kill the police officer in self-defense and rather than turn themselves in, they go on the run.
Directed by Melina Matsoukas. Starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith.

The Farewell
Another film with good reviews out of Sundance.
A headstrong Chinese-American woman returns to China when her beloved grandmother is given a terminal diagnosis. Billi struggles with her family’s decision to keep grandma in the dark about her own illness as they all stage an impromptu wedding to see grandma one last time.
Directed by Lulu Wang. Starring Awkwafina.

Long Shot
A comedy with a cool cast by Jonathan Levine.
A political journalist tries to hook up with his old babysitter, who now holds an important government position.
Directed by Jonathan Levine. Starring Seth Rogen, Charlize Theron and Alexander Skarsgård.

Rocketman
I was disappointed with Bohemian last year, so I'm reminding myself to be sceptical, but I hope this is excellent. Trailer here.
The story of Elton John's life, from his years as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his influential and enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher. Starring Taron Egerton (as Elton), Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The Goldfinch
Based on the bestselling book. Director of Brooklyn.
A boy in New York is taken in by a wealthy family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In a rush of panic, he steals ‘The Goldfinch’, a painting that eventually draws him into a world of crime.
Directed by John Crowley. Cast includes Ansel Elgort, Finn Wolfhard, Aneurin Barnard, Oakes Fegley, Ashleigh Cummings, Willa Fitzgerald and Nicole Kidman.

Big Time Adolescence
It's a little too early to tell from the Sundance reviews, but I really hope this is good. Pete Davidson and the guy who plays Sam in American Vandal star.
A 16 year old virgin with a growth hormone deficiency slowly gets corrupted by his hero, an aimless college dropout.
Directed by Jason Orley. Starring Pete Davidson and Griffin Gluck.

Triple Frontier
The cast for this Netflix action thriller is awesome. If the trailer and director is anything to go by though, this looks really promising.
Struggling to make ends meet, former special ops soldiers reunite for a high-stakes heist: stealing $75 million from a South American drug lord.
Directed by J.C. Chandor (Margin Call). Starring Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam and Pedro Pascal.

Chaos Walking
I hope this is amazing, but the premise sounds incredibly difficult to pull off. Good cast and director, so fingers crossed. I'm using the book description here.
A dystopian world where all living creatures can hear each other's thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds called Noise.
Directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow). Starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.

The Rosie Project
Few details are out. Ryan Reynolds, based on a good book.
An unlucky-in-love university professor creates an elaborate questionnaire in an effort to find a wife and meets an unconventional woman who doesn’t match any of his “requirements”, but might be the perfect woman for him.
Directed by Ben Taylor. Starring Ryan Reynolds.

The Beach Bum
The trailer looks completely wack. Make sure you watch it:
An irreverent comedy about the misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious stoner and lovable rogue who lives large.
Directed by Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers). Starring Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Zac Efron and Isla Fisher.

Parasite
I don't know much about this one, but the director previously made Snowpiercer, Okja and my favourite, Memories of Murder. I'm excited.
All unemployed, Ki-taek’s family takes peculiar interest in the Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an expected incident.
Directed by Bong Joon-Ho. Starring Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Jo Yeo-jeong and Choi Woo-shik.

I Am Mother
This one comes from nowhere. An indie sci-fi with with an interesting plot, and good Sundance reviews.
A teenage girl is raised underground by a robot “Mother”, designed to repopulate the earth following an extinction event. But their unique bond is threatened when an inexplicable stranger arrives with alarming news.0
Directed by Grant Sputore. Starring Hillary Swank , Clara Rugaard-Larsen and Rose Byrne.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
You’ve more than likely heard of this one. Ted Bundy film starring Zac Efron. I’m not sure how excited I am for the film, but Efron’s performance is apparently very good.
A chronicle of the crimes of Ted Bundy, from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who refused to believe the truth about him for years.
Directed by Joe Berlinger. Starring Lily Collins, Zac Efron and John Malkovich.

The Nightingale
The second film from the director of the Babadook. Really promising (and slightly divisive) reviews out of Sundance. Fun fact: you can kinda measure the divisiveness of a film on RT by comparing the percentage meter with the average rating. If the percentage is high but the average rating is low, it shows that the film is all-round solid and inoffensive. If the percentage rating is lower but the average rating is still high/moderate, it means there’s a large gap between those who loved and didn’t like it. Anyway, back to the Nightingale. I’m excited - doubly so since it’s an Aussie film.
In 1829, Claire, a 21-year-old Irish convict, chases a British soldier through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. She enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker named Billy, who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past.
Directed by Jennifer Kent. Starring Aisling Franciosi, Sam Claflin, Damon Herriman and Ewen Leslie.

The Dead Don't Die
Another awesome cast, definitely one to look forward to. The plot summary isn’t out, but it’s a comedy zombie flick.
Directed by Jim Jarmusch. Starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Chloë Sevigny, Austin Butler, Steve Buscemi and Tilda Swinton.

Memoria
Tilda Swinton seems to be working a lot, woah.
Memoria revolves around a character (portrayed by Tilda Swinton) who suffers from exploding head syndrome, a psychological condition in which a person experiences loud noises when falling asleep or waking up.
Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Starring Tilda Swinton and Jeanne Balibar.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette
The trailer for this, particularly the music, wasn’t good. The content of the trailer shows a lot of potential though, and the book is apparently really good. Also: Richard Linklater.
When architect-turned-recluse Bernadette Fox goes missing prior to a family trip to Antarctica, her 15-year-old daughter Bee goes on a quest with Bernadette’s husband to find her.
Directed by Richard Linklater. Starring Cate Blanchett ,Emma Nelson, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Judy Greer and Laurence Fishburne.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Tom Hanks seems made for this role. Should be good.
The story of Fred Rogers, the honored host and creator of the popular children’s television program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (1968).
Directed by Marielle Heller. Starring Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys and Chris Cooper.

High Flying Bird
I’ll make this quick: Excellent reviews so far. Netflix in Feb. Steven Soderbergh. Shot on an iPhone. Moonlight writer.
During an NBA lockout, a sports agent, Dean, presents his rookie client, Erick Scott, with an intriguing and controversial business opportunity.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11). Starring André Holland Zazie Beetz Jeryl Prescott Kyle MacLachlan Caleb McLaughlin Zachary Quinto.

The Cradle
I don’t know much about this one but the plot intrigues me. For some reason it reminds me of Denis Villeneuve's early film, Incendies (if you haven’t watched yet, make it your next film - it’s incredible.)
A young couple not ready to expect their first baby track down a cradle, only to make a discovery that will change their family forever.
Directed by Hope Dickson Leach. Starring Jack O'Connell and Lily Collins.

The Woman in the Window
A Rear Window-esque movie with a great cast and director. Really hoping this is great, cos I love these kind of plots.
An agoraphobic woman living alone in New York begins spying on her new neighbors only to witness a disturbing act of violence.
Directed by Joe Wright. Starring Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore and Wyatt Russell.

Gemini Man
The plot is crazy, but the cast and director can definitely pull it off.
Henry Brogen, an aging assassin tries to get out of the business but finds himself in the ultimate battle: fighting his own clone who is 25 years younger than him and at the peak of his abilities.
Directed by Ang Lee. Starring Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco
Yet another film with great reviews from Sundance.
Jimmie Fails dreams of reclaiming the Victorian home his grandfather built in the heart of San Francisco. Joined on his quest by his best friend Mont, Jimmie searches for belonging in a rapidly changing city that seems to have left them behind.
Directed by Joe Talbot. Starring Jimmie Fails, Jonathan Majors, Rob Morgan and Tichina Arnold.

Blinded by the Light
Sundance musta been real great this year, cos once again we have another movie with good reviews out of it. Apparently wholesome and inspiring.
In 1987, during the austere days of Thatcher’s Britain, a teenager learns to live life, understand his family, and find his own voice through the music of Bruce Springsteen.
Directed by Gurinder Chadha. Starring Viveik Kalra, Nell William and Hayley Atwell.

Before You Know It
Good reviews. Sundance. Family comedy.
A long-kept family secret thrusts codependent, thirty-something sisters Rachel and Jackie Gurner into a literal soap opera. A journey that proves that you really can come of age, at any age.
Directed by Hannah Pearl Utt. Starring Hannah Pearl Utt, Jen Tullock and Judith Light.

Little Monsters
SUNDANCE. GOOD. ZOMBIES. COMEDY.
A washed-up musician teams up with a teacher and a kids show personality to protect young children from a sudden outbreak of zombies.
Directed by Abe Forsythe. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Josh Gad, Alexander England and Nadia Townsend.

Jojo Rabbit
I'll watch anything Taika makes, but this looks insane - one of my most hyped. (I accidentally deleted this from the list while editing!!)
Jojo Rabbit is about a young boy living during World War II. His only escapism is through his imaginary friend, an ethnically inaccurate version of Adolf Hitler, who pushes the young boy’s naive patriotic beliefs. However, this all changes when a young girl challenges those views and causes Jojo to face his own issues.
Directed by Taiki Watiti. Starring Taiki Watiti (as Adolf Hitler), Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson and Alfie Allen.

The Lodge
A spoopy film that was well received at Sundance.
Two siblings spend the night alone with their new stepmother. Stuck in a remote mountain cabin, the trio are terrorised by a supernatural force.
Directed by Veronika Franz, Severin Fiala. Starring Riley Keough, Jaeden Lieberher and Lia McHugh.

1917
World War I film. Plot unknown.
Directed by Sam Mendes. Cinematography by Roger Deakins.

Dragged Across Concrete
Two policemen, one an old-timer, the other his volatile younger partner, find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics becomes the media’s cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.
Directed by S. Craig Zahler. Starring Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Don Johnson and Jennifer Carpenter.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things
A Charlie Kaufman film, set for Netflix.
An unexpected detour causes a woman who is trying to figure out how to break up with her boyfriend to rethink her life.
Directed by Charlie Kaufman. Starring Brie Larson and Jesse Plemons.

My thoughts

Feel free to ignore lol
After finally managing to finish this compilation, reading plots and wikis and watching trailers, I cannot believe how many good films there are coming out. This is reminding me of 2017, when I made a similar post - and 2017 was an absolutely amazing year overall, especially in light of the relative disappointment of 2018. There’s just so much promise in every category - horror, thriller, biopics, drama, action, comedy… and if you count zombie films as a genre unto themselves, then yeah, that too.
Of course, I cannot wait for Tarantino’s flick. But after that it’s hard to pick ordered favourites - Knives Out, The Dead Don’t Die, Us, The Report and Luce are films I cannot wait for, but there are so many others I’m pumped for - and I haven’t even gone into the blockbusters.

Speaking of…
For the franchise and sequel films, I haven’t gone to the effort of adding plot and cast details. They’re huge, you’ll hear all about them anyway.

Franchise/Sequel/Remake films

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Star Wars: Episode IX
Zombieland 2: Double Tap
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Avengers: Endgame
Captain Marvel
Joker
Toy Story 4
Shazam!
It: Chapter Two
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum
Spider-Man: Far from Home
Lion King
Dumbo
Aladdin
The New Mutants
Alita: Battle Angel
Hellboy
Dark Phoenix
Men in Black International
Fast & Furious presents: Hobbs & Shaw
Artemis Fowl
Charlie’s Angels
Kingsman 3
Sonic the Hedgehog
Frozen 2

I’m genuinely delirious. I told myself I would get this post done before I went to sleep and I am now totally exhausted. There were far more movies than I anticipated. This year is ridiculous and it has been mean to me. Of course, if I missed anything let me know and I’ll add it once I’ve woken up!
Oh, and if you want to follow me on Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/xaviertobin/
Hope you enjoy! :)

2018.12.07 20:35 1998tweety Album of the Year 2018 #7: Nicki Minaj - Queen

Re-posting this from /popheads so the format might be a little bit different from what you're used to seeing. Sorry about that!
Artist: Nicki Minaj
Album: Queen
Label: Young Money
Released: June 15th, 2018 August 10th, 2018
Listen:
Spotify
Apple Music
Google Play
Tidal

Background

Onika Tanya Maraj has quickly built a reputation as a strong force in both the pop and hip-hop communities. As the most well known and best selling female rapper ever, Nicki has broken boundaries in the rap scene and has opened the gate for more female rappers to do so and achieve mainstream success. Now, with the rise of a new female rapper, Nicki sets to defend her reputation as the Queen of Rap with the release of her 4th studio album Queen.

Intro

Interesting to note, this is Nicki's first album without the work pink in the title, along with the cover not having any pink on it either. I believe this to be because Nicki has always used the colour pink to display femininity and assert herself specifically as a female rapper. With the title Queen, there is no need to do so since the title is inherently feminine. Ugh her mind is so powerful.
For this write-up I thought it'd be interesting to take a bit of a different approach: Nicki has always had visuals play a huge part in her career, and so with enough stretching you can kind of see this album as a visual album. If Halsey can call hopeless fountain kingdom a visual album then I can do the same with Queen (ily Halsey).

Tracklist

Ganja Burn
We find ourselves at the ruins of where a kingdom once stood, the Queen is long gone and her name is long forgotten. But there are whispers of her return. The Queen, risen from her 3 year slumber and with an army like none other is prepared to take back the throne.
Ganja Burn is the opening track of the album Reflective, Nicki details her downfall, and most importantly how she plans to make her revival known and inescapable. Incorporating both singing and rapping, Nicki appears at her most vulnerable. This song is a definite highlight from the album and the perfect opener into what follows.
Majesty (feat. Eminem & Labrinth)
As we arrive at the castle, the Queen has swiftly returned to power. With a fierce opening verse, a mach 5 feature by the King himself, and a suffocating final verse, she shows why the throne belongs to her and her alone.
Produced by well-known rapper Eminem, Majesty which features Labrinth as well, is another standout from the album. With 2 verses from Nicki, both in completely different styles, the Queen shows off her versatility and mastery on the same track. Em's verse is a highlight too, with lightning speed delivery Em actually is faster on Majesty than on his iconic Rap God. Personally, and maybe its the delusional stan talking, but I believe with a high-budget video this could've been Nicki's shot at a #1 if this was released as the lead single. Nicki and Em both deliver stellar verses, and Labrinth provides a very catchy hook. The beat at the beginning is especially delicious, both hard hitting and makes you want to jump. The song Eminem brings a lot of hype and fans to the track as well.
Barbie Dreams
Popheads Jukebox: 6.29
The Queen's hand is desired by many, but she is a tough woman to impress. Nicki tears into popular male artists and athletes and shows why she's the best.
Probably the most notorious track from the album, Nicki samples a Biggie track and disses a ton of male artists, who may or may not have tried to get with her. Nicki's disses are clever and brutal, quickly moving from one to the next. A bit reminiscent of her early tracks, Barbie Dreams is both humorous and threatening.
Rich Sex (feat. Lil Wayne)
The Queen sets her standards for potential suitors with one main criteria; hes gotta have bank
Starting with not much money to her name, now with an approximate net worth of $75 million, money has become no issue for the rapper. Accompanied by label mate Lil Wayne, the duo brag about how only the richest belong in their beds. The beat is slick and a tad bit ominous, both rappers show off their ability to command the mood in a track.
Hard White
A tad bit reminiscent, the Queen recalls her rise to power and how hard and long shes worked for it.
Continuing on from Rich Sex, Nicki brags more about her wealth but also about how hard shes had to work for it. Nicki doesn't take shit from anyone anymore and demands her proper cut. This track is a bit more mellow but that doesn't mean her jabs are. Rumored to be about Cardi B, but later debunked when Nicki said the track was recorded at the same time as No Frauds.
Bed (feat. Ariana Grande)
Popheads Jukebox: 5.06
As much as the Queen desires someone with sexual prowess of their own, none can match hers.
Featuring long time friend Ariana Grande, this is one of the most pop songs on the album. Starting with 2 more laid-back verses, the song attempts to capitalize on the current trend of chill music. With that being said, it doesn't stop Nicki from turning up the heat in the last verse as she increases her tempo, proving shes always finishes off strong.
Thought I Knew You (feat. The Weeknd)
The Queen meets a former lover in the middle of the night.
Featuring The Weeknd, Nicki and Abel detail some of their previous relationships and their downfalls. Possibly about his breakup with Selena Gomez, the emotion in Abel's voice is what carries the song. Abel's voice suits the track so well and goes surprisingly well with Nicki's softer singing voice.
Run & Hide
Nicki delves deeper into a chill R&B sound as she continues to think about old lovers.
Softer tracks like this do a very good job of showing off Nicki's range. Hip-hop, R&B, pop; chill, viscous, fun, and fierce; Nicki demonstrates that she can suit any genre, her Cheek to Cheek is coming.
Chun Swae (feat. Swae Lee)
I've been trying to shoehorn this visual album narrative into every track and honestly at this point I see that it doesn't really work but I'm too committed at this.
The longest track on the album, Chun Swae (a combination of the names Chun-Li and Swae Lee) is the perfect transition between the chiller songs and whats next to come. Swae Lee utilizes his well known high-pitched vocals adding contrast to Nicki's sharper tone in this track. At the end of the track Nicki shoutouts numerous higher-ups from Young Money, humorously name drops the album, and thanks her fans.
Chun-Li
Popheads Jukebox: 7.63
As a challenger to the throne approaches, the Queen must appear fiercer than ever to defend her spot.
The lead single from Queen, Chun-Li doesn't lack any punch (or kick for that matter). Referencing the popular Street Fighter character, Nicki compares herself to Chun-Li in many ways (most obviously the size of their assets lmao). The track particularly shows off Nicki's rhyming skills and her ability to throw punches and put a lot of power and emphasis into her words. Although it may not be her lead single that makes you want to dance the most, it's definitely the one that makes you feel most like a bad bitch. I know when this track was released a lot of people thought Nicki was confused cause she kept calling Chun-Li the bad guy, but the point shes making is that even if you're the good guy you'll always be the bad guy to someone.
LLC
The Queen continues to defend her crown and she calls out her rival.
The Cardi B diss track: Nicki compares herself to many popular and well respected artists in the industry such as Rihanna, Beyonce, and Kanye West. Taking numerous shots at Cardi like calling out her ghostwriting rumors, Nicki does not hold back at all on this one. Shouting out Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, and Katy Perry (I swear she's referenced Swish Swish like 30 times this album, probably expected it to be a huge hit), Nicki names the large amount of people shes worked with in the past (minus Taylor), showing just how long shes been prospering in the industry. Potentially referencing Iggy Azalea, Nicki theorizes that Cardi might just be on a luck streak right now and her fame can evaporate any moment just like it did with Iggy. A highlight for sure not only before of the great and intelligent lyrics, but also because Nicki delivers hard with her rapping technique and speed.
Good Form
A good Queen keeps us fed.
I'm so glad this song was chosen as a single cause wow its so so catchy. Hook after hook, Good Form gets stuck in your head right away and doesn't go away. Nicki's beats timed with the claps are infectious and makes it impossible to sing along. On top of that the song is just a lot of fun. Nicki loves homophones (and homophobes?) and she gets to use them a lot on this track. Despite being a fun track, Nicki's lyrics aren't lacking either. Her lyrics are clever and humorous, making this a standout and fan favourite on the album
Good Form Remix (feat. Lil Wayne)
Queen: Roman Reloaded -- The Re-Up
Lil Wayne delivers a solid verse but honestly as unlikely as it would've been, I would've loved to see someone like Iggy Azalea on this remix as she fits the theme super well.
Nip Tuck
The Queen's crown begins to slip as she rethinks her reign.
One of my personal favourite from the album, Nicki gets to show off her vulnerable side again. Mixing singing and rapping, Nicki delivers an emotional chorus and verses. However, that doesn't stop Nicki from turning up the speed on her last verse. Nicki blazes through this last verse detailing how this lover has done her wrong and how shes gonna rise above it. While I do love pure ballads like Grand Piano and Come See About Me, I feel like this type of song is what Nicki should stick to when wanting to show a more emotional side, as it allows her to show off both her singing and rapping abilities which also give the song great progression and depth. "A true bad bitch isn't weak or bitter.", should've really been Nicki's motto throughout this album rollout though.
2 Lit 2 Late Interlude
This isn't bad, I actually kind of like it but wow it's terribly misplaced. Nip Tuck into Come See About Me would've been perfect. This interlude should've either came before Nip Tuck or after Come See About Me.
Come See About Me
The Queen takes off her crown...but only for a moment.
Its become a custom that each Nicki album has to have at least 1 pure ballad. On Pinkprint it was Grand Piano and on Queen its Come See About Me. Featuring just her vocals, Nicki painfully begs a lover to check up on her. When you portray yourself as fierce, strong, and untouchable as Nicki Minaj does, you can forget that underneath all the gold and diamonds and glitter and money, thats shes a person just like everyone else. Money can make a lot of things easier, but there are somethings it can't buy.
Sir (feat. Future)
The Queen meets up with a friend to make preparations for her departure.
Nicki has been capitalizing on the current trend of chill music a lot on this album. Honestly I don't have a lot to say about this track cause the lyrics are kind of hard to understand and decipher lmao. I wanna say they're just flexing about their wealth though.
Miami
Queen on the run.
Continuing on with the trend set by Shanghai on The Prinkprint, Miami is of course named after the place. Although it doesn't go nearly as hard Shanghai, Miami takes on a more chill and laid-back approach which has been the trend with this album. Same as Sir, this track is just kind of flexing, which is fine not every track has to be a Chun-Li or Barbie Dreams. I like the Mean Girls reference though, Ariana is shook.
Coco Chanel (feat. Foxy Brown)
Escaping the city at night on an empty highway in a sleek expensive car, the Queen hands over her throne...but only until she returns again.
Finally, my favourite track on the album. This track brings everything I look for in a Nicki Minaj track, and the Foxy Brown feature delivers too. On a somewhat ominous and dangerous beat, both Trinidian-American rappers thrive with punches that are sharp, quick, and hard-hitting. Nicki's vocals aren't to be overlooked either, as she sings the chorus in Spanish on a dancehall beat, fitting perfectly considering who's on the track. I've seen people here and especially on /music do this to try and discredit Nicki and say she isn't good at rapping because she like to use slant rapping a lot. Basically instead or rhyming the last word of every line, you instead rhyme the word in the middle of a line with the word in the middle on the next line. Nicki does this a lot, her verse on Rake It Up for example, and on the first verse for this track. Nicki is a master of multiple techniques so its logical that she should show them all of because it makes her songs more interesting and adds variety. While Nicki does a great job of setting the pace on the first verse, it's Foxy who turns up the heat. Spitting a venomous 18 bar verse, Foxy's style is like none other. Rhyming off-beat and with a distinct accent, Foxy separates herself from Nicki and adds more variety to the track. Finally Nicki closes the song off with another great verse which sounds different from her first one. Sparing Cardi for once, Nicki instead takes more shots at Remy Ma, referencing that Remy hasn't charted on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2016. What I love so much about this track is how it keeps itself constantly moving and doesn't slow though. Both rappers deliver stellar verses and bring their own strengths to the song without showing one another up. When Nicki plays to her strengths she is cunning and lethal, something not a lot of her rivals can claim.
Inspirations Outro
A direct continuation from Coco Chanel, Nicki names, as the title suggests, a bunch of her inspirations. There's not much to say about this track, it could've easily been tacked onto the end of Coco Chanel instead though.

Extras

Fefe?
Thank U, Next
Barbie Tingz
Popheads Jukebox: 7.29
Justice for Barbie Tingz!!!! Wow this song was robbed hard, its easily one of the bests on the album. Something else could've got cut to make room for this on the album, I'm not 100% sure why Nicki took it off. This track is so fun and catchy (the clapping in particular adds to it). Nicki's bars and lyrics on this are great, both witty but also entertaining. I remember when this dropped a lot of people here preferred it to Chun-Li whereas on hhh it was the opposite.
Regular Degular
A track found on the target version of the album, this track has some similarities to bits in Chun Swae. I know some people like this track but personally I think its just okay. I mean its certainly better than some tracks on the album but, and this is hard to explain, but it kind of sounds like the kind of song you'd only find on the target version.
Sorry (feat. Nas)
Scrapped from the album due to an issue with obtaining rights for a sample, Sorry can be found rotting in the castle's dungeon. Personally the song bops, but it also stands out so much compared to everything else on the album (probably because of the sample); the only song that really sounds similar to 2 Lit 2 Late.
No Frauds (with Drake and Lil Wayne), Changed It (with Lil Wayne), and Regret In Your Tears were all released prior to the release of Queen.

THEY'RE SWITCHING LIKE SISSIES NOW

Did Nicki make some points? Let's find out...
Nicki is a very popular artist in the media and is well known all around the world, for this section I'm gonna focus on /popheads and /hiphopheads. Basically I've created a table of the upvotes and comments on Nicki's songs and videos this era on both of these subreddits. Because of the large amount of features Nicki puts out, I decided to only focus on Queen tracks.
Song/Video /popheads /hiphopheads
Barbie Tingz 541 Upvotes (93%), 110 Comments 1666 Upvotes (92%), 272 Comments
Chun-Li 485 (96%), 61 2020 (92%), 448
Chun-Li Vertical Video 138 (95%), 41 365 (91%), 99
Barbie Tingz Video 222 (93%), 38 881 (90%), 149
Chun-Li Video 417 (94%), 112 2185 (91%), 640
Rich Sex (feat. Lil Wayne) 160 (95%), 49 880 (93%), 342

Bed (feat. Ariana Grande) Video 258 (94%), 127 N/A I guess it was deleted or I'm dumb and can't find it
Queen 615 (92%), 330 2968 (88%), 1678
Majesty (feat. Eminem & Labrinth) N/A 764 (92%), 319
Barbie Dreams N/A 1365 (94%), 275
Ganja Burn Video 323 (91%), 87 340 (84%), 168
Barbie Dreams Video 162 (83%), 115 97 (60%), 150
Good Form (feat. Lil Wayne) Video 230 (86%), 97 761 (88%), 238
That was a lot of numbers and link posting so hopefully I didn't make a mistake somewhere.
Based on these numbers we can see that the overall amount of upvotes and comments have been going down? Is this cause people "switched" on Nicki, or is it simple because the album hype died down? I don't know and I don't know why I spent so much time on this section.

Queen of Features

Nicki has so many features, it would take too long to list and talk about them all, so I'll just list a few of my favourites from this era.
[Hip-Hop]
Post Malone - Ball For Me (check out dropthehammer11's beerbongs & bentleys writeup on /popheads.)
Migos & Cardi B (B for Budget Nicki hihi) - Motorsports
Lil Wayne - Dark Side Of The Moon
Tyga - Dip
Yo Gotti - Rake It Up
A$AP Ferg - Plain Jane Remix
6ix9ine & Kanye West - MAMA
YG, 2 Chainz & Big Sean - Big Bank
[POP]
Little Mix - Woman Like Me
BTS - IDOL (check out impeccabletim's BTS - Love Yourself write up on the 18th on /popheads)
Zayn - No Candle No Light
Katy Perry - Swish Swish
[Gospel?]
Tasha Cobbs Leonard - I'm Getting Ready
And that's only like half of them, yuh.

TO FREEDOM!!!

I'm sure everyone here already knows about Nicki's meltdown due to her album reaching #2 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart, so I'll just post a link that seems to cover most of it cause really you can talk more about the meltdown than you can about the album.

I am the generous Queen! Ask Ms. Ellen

Nicki Minaj partnered with Tidal to give fans a free copy of her album if they used a special promo code, except there appeared to be an issue with the system that resulted in fans being able to use the code to redeem any album on Tidal. Couple that with that fact that 500 turkeys to Queens residents, she's really been keeping us fed!

Closing Thots & More

Check out this stellar analysis of Nicki's 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries by radiofan15.
Pitchfork's review of Queen (7.6)
Lyric highlights from Billboard
80 minute long interview with Genius
Super interesting breakdowns on Nicki's career as both a singer and rapper, showing that Queen is her most rap heavy album to date! And the impact her different styles can have on sales.

Discussion

  1. What are you favourite and least favourite tracks on the album?
  2. Do you agree with the single choices (justice for Barbie Tingz)? What changes would you make?
  3. With hip-hop doing better on the charts than ever, do you find it surprising that Nicki's most hip-hop album has been her worst performing? Is it simply because the album isn't good or is Nicki simply more fit to be a popstar than a rapper?
  4. Nicki's rollout for this album has been very controversial, both in terms of her Twitter meltdown and with her choice in collaborations. How do you see this effecting Nicki's legacy? Can she bounce back from this or did she already peak commercially? What should the sound of her next album be? Should she go back to Roman, focus more on pop songs, continue down this route?
Thanks so much for reading this! Make sure to check out the previous write-ups, and gannade's Invasion of Privacy write-up over on /popheads!

2018.12.06 22:39 Godlike_Mentality Did I break up their friendship?

So I'm in highschool and I like this one girl (let's just call her Selena Gomez so this story won't be so boring to read.) Selena Gomez is friends with Taylor Swift who I also like. But one day Selena came and sat at my table for lunch. And I usually sit there alone and watch a movie on my phone. So while she's sitting at my table about 5 minutes later Taylor Swift came and ask Selena why is she sitting here. It wasn't in a angry tone either it was more of a concern tone. Selena answer she's sitting there because I was at the table. Taylor then decided to sit at the table and they just sat there at my table eating lunch. I was watching a movie on my phone so I wasn't talking to either of them. After lunch ended I went to my classroom and I share the same class as Selena. We had to do work and it was a group project so we partnered up. We couldn't finish it in time so Selena requested if we should sit together at lunch tomorrow to finish it, so I agreed to it. The next day around lunch time I was going to get my food and I saw Taylor Swift talking to Selena Gomez in a room but since I didn't want them to think I'm nosy (which I am) I decided to just move along. I got my food sat at my same table and Selena didn't sit next to me so we could finish are project. I didn't even see her in the cafeteria. So as I went to ny class after lunch I ask her if she finish her part of the project. She didn't so we work on it in class. The rest of the week though I didn't see though two hanging with each other anymore. And Taylor Swift don't even talk to me anymore and we use to be close kinda. [Here is some background info so you could see my relationship towards both Selena and Taylor. I knew Selena for 4 years and knew Taylor for 3 but I never actually had a real talk with them. It was usaully just small talk. Selena told me she's taken. And I once ask Taylor out to a dance and she said yeah sort of. Selena and Taylor been close since as long as I knew them. They always would talk and it would only be them two together. Well occasionally they would bring Camila Cabello along but you could tell that they were more close together. Also I could be reading this wrong but Selena seems to always get closer to me when my teacher plays romantic music a.k.a songs about love in our classroom. And Taylor always touching me.] So do you think I broke their friendship up? P.S. I am wondering because I am close to both and I want to see if I can restore it because they are both my friends first, even if I do like them.

Jukebox: 6.29
Jukebox: 5.06
Chun-Li
Jukebox: 7.63

Jukebox: 7.29

[Hip-Hop]
Post Malone - Ball For Me (check out dropthehammer11's beerbongs & bentleys writeup.)
Migos & Cardi B (B for Budget Nicki hihi) - Motorsports
Lil Wayne - Dark Side Of The Moon
Tyga - Dip
Yo Gotti - Rake It Up
A$AP Ferg - Plain Jane Remix
6ix9ine & Kanye West - MAMA
YG, 2 Chainz & Big Sean - Big Bank
[POP]
Little Mix - Woman Like Me
BTS - IDOL (check out impeccabletim's BTS - Love Yourself write up on the 18th)

Make sure to check out the previous write-ups, and remember to tune in for gannade's Invasion of Privacy write-up tomorrow!
